Wartime Farm Christmas Special

About These Videos
"Historian Ruth Goodman and archaeologists Alex Langlands and Peter Ginn face up to the challenges of the biggest revolution ever seen in the history of the British countryside as they turn Manor Farm back to how it was run in the Second World War. When Britain entered the war, two-thirds of all Britain's food was imported - and now it was under threat from a Nazi blockade. To save Britain from starvation, the nation's farmers were tasked with doubling food production in what Churchill called 'the frontline of freedom'."

If I recall, it was noted that the bureaucracy forced farmers to grow specific crops, often not being suitable for their location.

There was a good bit on making silage.

I give this video series 10 out of 10 acorns!

I love learning about WWII, and I think there is so much to be learned from that time period that could be applied to solving our current issues with sustainability, overconsumption, and climate change!

I give this video series 10 out of 10 acorns.

A mixture of relevant knowledge, a historical lesson, and entertainment. When the pressure was on, people found a way to put food on the table. It has not always been as easy as it has been in modern times to keep a filled pantry. The videos have great production value and excellent selection of people who provide information throughout.

I would recommend everyone check out this series.

I'm only getting through these in bits and pieces, but I'm really glad they're available. I'll get through them all the way eventually!
