I need to look at some horse, mule or donkey drawn wagons and carts that have a covered section for the driver (at least). Where would be a good place to look for such wagons and carts?
It doesn't have to be a traditional Amish or Mennonite buggy, but can be more modern in design if I can find one. Just similar in overall concept to an Amish or Mennonite buggy.
Thank you

If it was me, I would look at images on the web, find a design that I liked, then probably build it myself. Really that is the only way to get exactly what I want. I do not have the skills to make the wagon wheels so I would have to buy them, but that is easy enough. The rest is easy to make too I would think. Fabric could come from Farm Tek as they have fabric in custom sizes.

If that cannot work, I might look at Pioneer Equipment.

Most all that I've seen are homemade affairs.

Alternately, watch for auctions.  There are enough folks using draft power for work and play that there's probably a sort of enthusiasts group near you.  Or watch for Amish auctions, if there are any Amish in your area.  And if there are, maybe find a buggy shop and buy direct.

It would be helpful if you would include where you are located. If you are in Hawaii, it will be a much different answer than if you are in Indiana.

If there are Amish near you, they are the experts, and are often willing to sell to anyone with cash.

If you are wanting something fancey there is Roberts Carriage
They are from Canada, but ship all over the US. I bought two from them many years ago. They were pretty good. Buggy is the cadilac though.

Another possible is just to convert a car.  Growing up there used to be a model T in this area that had been converted to horse drawn.  But any modern car should likely work.  Strip everything that isn't creature comfort that adds weight and add a pull point for the tongue/reach that connects to the wheels for steering.  Something like a mini van with its short hood would likely be idea.

Get ahold of the Small Farmers Journal.
It is a quarterly magazine that is mostly focused on animal power. (Although tractors do make an occasional artical)
They have lots of advertisers. As well as a letter section where you can ask for help from expienced people. And contacts in your area.
In this case having a knowledgeable person to help you is much safer.

As well stored wagons and carts can look good, but there can be rot issues or cracks that can make a seemingly great little rig a death trap.

It will also depend on the size and type of animal that will be doing the pulling. As shafts/tongues/single and double tree widths and lengths have to be the right size.

Find a good mentor or two and learn everything you can from them and ask for their help to choose the animals you decide on.

Draft animals are awesome. But potentially very dangerous. Don’t go it alone.
You will save a lot of heart ache not to mention money and possibly broken bones by learning from someone with experience and a good reputation.
