Mike Haasl wrote:Hi Craig, thanks for reading the article!

I know of at least one Otis in Canada.

I don't know of any land transfers but it's quite possible that if one happened, the people involved may not want to make it public or tell me.  I know some PEPpers have been contacted by Otises.

I like physical badges too but we couldn't figure out how to do it...

Permies.com records and displays your badges (see my signature line below my post)

As for the badges.  There are a few ways it can be done.

1. Collect and make a file with all the designs files in Google drive. I think jpeg is good. But can find out.
2. Have a embroidery make them per order, or bulk.
3. Offer them for sale or a service for people to buy directly from suppliers.

Get me a few Pic files and I can start looking at quotes.

Can you check with @Paul to see what the status of land is, and or if any had actually gotten land?

I know that we are still being contacted by otises who are frustrated that more people have not already cleared PEP4 (let alone PEP3 or PEP2).  The original plan was that otises would not contact peppers until they cleared PEP4.  However, I know that the otises are impatient.  I have heard rumors that some people that have not even cleared PEP2 are being contacted by otises.

I have suggested to the impatient otises to at least wait until peppers have completed PEP2.

Zero people have completed PEP2.

My impression is that the first few people that clear PEP2 will have their pick of many otises.

Those that choose to start after others have gotten land, will probably need to go all the way through PEP4 in order to get land.

Of course, I think that this is a really good time to point out that the program is free.  And it is a new program.  I get the impression that there are a few people working on hard on getting to PEP2 so that they can start talking to the otises.

My guess is that this year there will be several connections made.

I've been contacted by 36 Otises so far about the program.  I can safely assume there are many more out there who just aren't contacting Paul or me because they don't need to.

I think that if we connect 100 skippers to 100 otises, we would then have about 3000 otises and 300 skippers getting past PEP1.

It just seems like the number of otises is larger than the number of skippers getting that far.

Yes!  I can talk to a group of 30 people about SKIP and usually at least one Otis in there says "Hey, that's my exact situation.  Great idea!".

So I can recruit an Otis in 45 minutes without trying very hard.  Getting someone to PEP2 takes a hell of a lot more than 45 minutes so my focus has mainly been on trying to talk to the future SKIPpers at conferences and events.

I'm thinking, too much most times 😉
Than a Otis University (illegal to say) or an Academy 2 to 4 years of Committed individuals, with major of SKIP done locally and things that can be done local be completed at LABS.

A program that gets support from its membership.
Keep a free program, yet have a paid subscription and or tuition. For those more Committed.

The idea of match making would also be good. For it would give the Skippper a goal and incentive to know they can get a certain property, before hand and on completion.  Also they could have a place to do SKIP on the property. As their time and work means something.

I was talking with a young farmer and seems he wants to sell everything for $200k land, house, tractor, animals, etc.

It maybe a good opportunity. Have to look into it more. Seems the LAND qualifies  😀

Thanks for replying to my post @Paul @Mike

Yes still thinking and more questions

1. Does Permies.com have a Wiki of the site?

I'm going to be doing some work on The Seasteading Institute wiki site. And thought about having one for SKIP.

2. I'm thinking of Affiliate marketing online to create an income. Yet trying to find out what to market.

Maybe a SKIP Course.
Showing people how to do the SKIPs.
Get them in Skool.

Is this possible @Paul?

I can use the info in the book to teach a course and market it.?

Should being in some book sales.
And get people into a structured program and get Qualified for land.

Craig

Permies has wiki pages.  This thread is a "wiki page with comments"

The skip book is available with a 50% affiliate fee.  If you scroll to the bottom of any page, there is a link that says "affiliate program".  All of my stuff is available with a 50% affiliate fee.

Thanks Paul.

The 2024 offers need to be updated.

Cheers,

You've already done the first step, which is creating an account here on permies!

The second step is to do a Badge Bit and take the required pictures while you do it. it's nice to start with a super easy Badge Bit so you can get a feel for the submission process (Here's a list of Badge Bits that people think are the easiest).

Once you've done your Badge Bit and taken the required pictures (&/or video), you just post it as a reply on that Badge Bit's thread, and click the "Submit for BB Certification," rather than the normal "Submit" button you used when making this post.

Here's a more in-depth tutorial for how to earn your first Badge Bit.

I hope that helps!

Welcome to permies Diana!
You might find the tinkering with this site forum useful too. There are links at the top to how to use permies - and if you have any trouble with the site itself, that forum is the best one to ask general question in.
Good luck with your SKIP adventures

Hi!  Thanks for the summary and link.
I've been loving this site for the past couple months and I never really looked at this badge-stuff until now. I'm not in need of inheriting land as long as all goes well with the transition I'm making. I'm in suburban NJ at the moment, leaving my apartment. My husband and I are renovating the upstairs of my stepmother's house to make it a "mother/daughter" because she can't live alone since my dad died. Along with this, we are acquiring his former hunting cabin in rural NY on 50+ acres, and we'll be working on repairing that and making it into our future home.
SO... I just realized there are lots of badge bits that I've already been doing!

I skimmed through them in case I can document them as they come up. Today I did my first: changing a locking doorknob.
I'm about to go post it. I never went to Girl Scouts or earned anything like badges, and I'm a child at heart, so I am probably a bit more excited than most people think I should be over this, lol! I can't wait to do more!

Oh, I have a suggestion: It's to put the main post of each aspect (the post that lists every badge bit) at the top left with the 'best posts', or somehow pin it where it's super obvious. Sometimes they get buried and they can be a bit annoying to find, which might make people frustrated. If we can easily find the list of requirements, it's easier to be excited about it and look through them to find what we might be able to do next. Just a thought!

Hi Kim. Welcome to permies.

This might be what you are requesting. All the BB's.

The main thing on all of them is good documentation. Take many pictures. Before, during, & after. That will cover a large percentage of the requirements.

Thanks! And yes, that link does it. I was looking at each individual PEP forum, and needing to scroll through them, if you get what I mean. I'll bookmark the link you gave.
