We are currently looking into possible alternatives for Zoom for hosting webinars.

We've tried out GoTo Webinar and liked some of the features/pricing. *But we weren't so into the fact it seems you have to download something in order to join the session, which may be a barrier for some*

*On closer inspection, it seems you can join GoTo Webinar as a participant via the browser (i guess it's just not that obvious): https://support.goto.com/webinar/help/how-do-i-join-a-webinar

Also, the pricing is a bit convoluted - it looks like the 'lite' package allows 250 participants (a positive) but on closer inspection, it seems although you can register 250 people the actual attendance limit is 100 (same as our current zoom).

Anyhoo, does anyone have any other suggestions of good platforms to give a try that they like/have used?

thank you

What level of participation is needed of the attendees?

Do they need video? Voice? Or is only chat good?

Video and chat for all participants would be ideal.

I think that it would be ideal if attendees could have voice and video ability. However I believe most of the time our webinars and presentations have the attendees participate in the chat as the co-hosts moderate and bring attention to the presenters. So if all co-hosts could have voice and video it might be enough. But if only the host could have voice video and chat and not the co-host then I'm not sure it would work. But that's just my humble opinion

Check out Big Blue Button:

https://bigbluebutton.org/

Designed for education but good for any interactive online format, IMO.

Excellent, thanks Jeff!

Do you know if participants have to download anything? We are tending to steer clear of anything that does require this.

I like this short 5-minute video of Big Blue (especially from around 2 mins in):

I like the split cameras/presentation.
The easy polls.
Ease of downloading a file for participants.
Shared notes.
the seperate 'break room' is interesting - not sure if that is something we need/could use?

Both can be embedded in a thread.
