This is a project thread for the 2023 Permaculture Technology Jamboree at Wheaton Labs.

Discuss the Design of a Tick Mattresss

Questions for the project:
Is this Mattress for a specific cabin?
Desired Size?
Will we be using some of Paul's organic straw in the berm shed?

I'm planning on using the Make a Camping Cot-Size Mattress (tick) Stuffed with Natural Materials BB and complete the requirements of the BB:
- Make a camping cot-size mattress
- Adult standard cot size (approximately 74 inches by 26 inches)
- 3 to 5 inches thick
- Fabric must be a natural material (cotton, wool, linen, etc.)
- Stuffing must be a natural material such as bedstraw, straw, feathers, seed husks, or wool fleece

The project lead for this artifact is Opalyn Rose! "Opalyn has been exploring a truly raw-material life while stewarding land and community in south-central Washington. Opalyn tends the sheep and the forest, transforming a fleece or a tree into not only yarn and lumber but clothing and snowmen too.  She brings her love of that transformation to the classroom sharing her skills while helping you develop yours. It will be a new mattress for the Tipi. Slightly irregular shape but similar to a full size.

It would be 4-5 inches thick (possibly measured when someone is laying on it)
Is the ticking material purchased?

We haven't. Do you have a recommendation?

I found Organic Cotton Fabric and Organic Twill Fabric.

The twill might work. I usually see descriptions that include “duck canvas” or “ticking” like this one from Hobby Lobby or this Organic Canvas.
