I hate to say it, but the ACLU might be a source of free legal support to challenge the Constitutionality of this / these laws.

Thanks. I normally don't do things like this but he is a retired veteran and this hits close to me. I hope others here in this site extend support in the defense of his livelihood and in the grand scheme of things defend our farming freedom - he deserves the return favor.

More likely the ACLU won't be interested. They were not interested in NAIS because it was about farmers, not people. I tried to get them interested but they literally told me that. Really weird.

As I posted over on your other thread asking about this, it's crazy, unscientific and a blatant trampling on the Constitutional rights. But, it's easy to understand. It is all about greed and cutting out the competition. What is particularly, almost, amusing is that Big Ag feels threatened enough to have pushed for this. As I said, greed.

For a century and a half, this pig (Mangalista) was the most popular breed in Hungary. Their meat is highly sought after in much of Europe, and rightly so.

It would be hard to classify the breed as feral. Sure, its origin comes from the wild boar, but the same can be said of any other domestic breed.

(You cannot make a real Hungarian sausage without Mangle pork)

This is total BS. The DNR is trying to get everyone all worked up about this "Feral hog pandemic". While I can see how they can and have cause crop damages in other areas they are not running rampant and eating everything like they try to sensationalize it. My room mate and I both hunt and after hearing these "killer hogs on the loose" reports from some friends, we don't watch the idiot box anymore so we hear it from word of mouth. We were like hell lets go hunt them! So we check the DNR website to see where the sightings are:

Wow, so out of 80+ counties we have 0 sightings in 39 of them, and 1 sighting in most of the rest. Hell there's more than one sighting of bigfoot per county on a yearly basis.

There's a healthy population of coyotes in most of the state, and an even healthier population of hunters. Our state's going broke, the state parks are in desperate need of upkeep, and this is where the resources are going...

What about the "domestic human pandemic"?

The DNR says it will utlize "phenotype to identify Sus scrofa and distinguish it from other species.
Identification may include use of one or more of the following characteristics:
(i) ears, legs, and tail) that are dark brown to black in coloration, and lack light-colored tips
on the bristles.
(ii) Coat coloration: Sus scrofa exhibit a number of coat coloration patterns. Patterns most
frequently observed among wild/feral/hybrid types are: wild/grizzled; solid black; solid
red/brown; black and white spotted; black and red/brown spotted.
(iii)Underfur: Sus scrofa exhibit the presence of underfur that is lighter in color (e.g.,
smoke gray to brown) than the overlying dark brown to black bristles/guard hairs."

That captures most heritage breeds, it seems.

"phenotype to identify Sus scrofa and distinguish it from other species." It's ridiculous to call feral hogs a different species from domestic hogs, when they are all the same species (Sus scrofa). The domestic pig is Sus scrofa domesticus, and all domestic pigs can revert to the original wild boar form in only a few generations. The only pig relative species native to North America is the Javalina. So what other "species" is the DNR trying to distinguish pigs from? Pigs of the same species!

I agree that we need to do something about that really dangerious species called

This makes me want to cry. Our tax money being used to weaken our diversity. The ugly fact is that scarcity creates a market and there are forces at work with a vested interest in creating scarcity. Unless we stand strong and put our foot down, this kind of thing is going to get worse. Today it is hogs, tomorrow it will be water. I kid you not, I saw a disposable can of oxygen for sale at a gas station the other day. It was $5.99 and would give you 15 or so breaths of high 02 air.

A friend of mine is on their waiting list to buy some of those hogs next week. The DNR is way off on this one; a bunch of eugenisists if you ask me.

I think supporting bakers acres by buying some of their top quality breeding stock would be the best way to ensure they make it through this governmental harassment.

Their open house is late next week.

Let's face it though, the DNR must know that at some point farmers have the power. For instance, one farmer with ten sows could, in a single year, ensure the future of feral hogs in Michigan if they wanted to... Why not simply ask for the cooperation of farmers in dealing with the so called problem, rather than penalizing them for no reason.

I'll tell you why.
Someday you will need a license or to posess any hog with reproductive ability.
We are boiling frogs. Time to hop out of the pot. That means something different for everyone. Right now, most people are sitting complacently. This has nothing to do with wooly pigs.
