Digital Marketplace filesize

Hi there,
I am about to start my first digital marketplace thread with something that I want to sell on permies.com! YAY! Thank you for creating this space for us!

This "something" is a permaculture class package which include digital files: a slide show, notes, bibliography, etc. Since there are multiple files, I am thinking that I will need to offer a compressed ZIP file for sale. So, I just compressed everything and the resulting ZIP file is 404 MB. Is this an acceptable size to upload to the permies digital marketplace?

I have no idea about what file size is permissible.  

If you do need to reduce it and created the slide show in power point, it is very easy to compress all the photos in a presentation and severely reduce file size. PowerPoint stores images really inefficiently and if you have a bunch of high res photos from a good camera, it can eat up space fast.

There may be a free pdf editor that can also do this if you have pdf'd every thing.

It seems that folks are offering videos on the Digital Marketplace. Videos tend to be this large or larger, so I'm assuming that's it's not an issue. Just checking before I post...

Yup - 404 megs is fine.  

Anything over 100 megs has a download fee when it is downloaded.  I think it is a penny for every 100 megs.   So if 10 people buy is and download it, then 40 cents will be taken out of your total.

Ok, I followed all the how-to threads on how to create a Digital Market thread. Everything was going great until I hit the "Submit" button and got the following error message:

Error with adding premium features: Empty feature.

On the initial post, the "premium tags" had the suggested "Scroll down to the bottom of this post to download your copy!" image code inside - recommended in this thread.

Second, I tried to post the thread with the premium tags and just the message "Thank you for your download" Inside the tag & not the above image code. Same error message appeared.

Third, I tried to post the thread with just the premium tags & nothing inside the tags. Same error message appeared.

*EDIT* I played around with the settings enough to finally get it uploaded. Here is the live thread in question. Starting a new thread for the latest snag: uploading ZIP files and/or Powerpoint (UPDATE: .pptx Powerpoint files are now allowed! YAY!) files not being allowed...

Also, I want to use Thread Boost features, but I'm not seeing them. Are they only activated once the thread is live?

*UPDATE* lost internet connection while upload was halfway through, would not re-start upload at halfway; had to start all over...

And yes, I have found the Thread Boost features that appeared after the post was made. Currently shopping... :-)

That 400+mb attachment might take a LOOOOONG time, but it should go through.

It took a LOOOOONG time for the https://permies.com/wiki/141289/Complete-set-Living-Woods-Magazine 800+mb zip file to be uploaded, but it did go through. And I have stupid-slow satellite internet. If mine could manage it, yours should be able to, too.

You can also attach multiple files, too, instead of making a ZIP file, if that's easier. With the Living Wood set, I found another edition to add to the set. Instead of trying to re-zip and re-upload it, I went and edited it and added another attachment. Digital Market threads can have more than one download. It works fine that way, too.

Does you have thoughts about best practices for the quantity of Digital Market thread attachments? Personally, I am currently leaning towards having a single file (.zip archive) for sale even if I am selling multiple digital files on a single thread. The advantage with a single file as I see it is that folks can't make the mistake of missing out on downloading the other files that they have purchased. On the other hand, the downside would be that they need to have un-zipping software (such as the Free Open Source Software [FOSS] program 7zip [available for Windows & Linux] or the FOSS program keka [for macOS]) installed on their devices (or know how to install it) & know how to use it. Thoughts?
