I'm looking for ideas for snack foods, or foods that would be easy to pack and carry, that meet the principles of an ancestral/Wise Traditions type diet - no denatured foods, no seed or vegetable oils, good animal fats and protein. Easy preparation and easy to find ingredients. So far I have:
- boiled eggs
- sardines
- cheese
- bone broth in a insulated go-cup
I'd like to find a do-able recipe for pemican, also for jarred (canned) pate or rilettes.

In Buffalobird Woman’s book that I posted from earlier, she also describes balls of parched, ground corn and rendered animal fat.
It put me in mind of an Estonian folk food of mixed, toasted grains “Kama”. Below is a link to recipe. It is commonly sprinkled on sour milk or yogurt, as in the recipe below. However, same blogger also says in earlier times it would be rolled together with animal fats or butter.
Jerky is a good one. I've seen recipes using liver and heart for this as well as the usual cuts.
Natural yoghurt in a leakproof container.
My usual breakfast could be made into a snack instead - it's homemade yoghurt, with a little raw honey, with either soaked or soaked and crisped buckwheat, and some crispy almonds - all of this is made ahead but is very quick to mix up together and fits within traditional foods guidelines. The soaked and crisped buckwheat is delicious, kind of like a traditional foods alternative to crunchy breakfast cereal.
