I am trying to post for recommendations about what to do about my neighbors pesticide spray drifting into my property. But the post got shut down due to my mention of “toxic gick”. I’m not sure how I can ask the question without referencing the spray. Can the thread be re-opened?

We don't allow discussion about pesticides, herbicides, or other toxic gick in the main forums. You might reword the post to ask about minimizing dust from your neighbor's property...

Once someone earns enough apples and pie to post in the Cider-Press forum, then the discussion specifying the type of dust will be welcomed there.

A great way to earn apples, is to make posts containing photos of your permaculture and garden projects.

Your post now mentions moderation which at best is a slap in the face for the volunteers and at worse, clutters up the site with off topic comments.  I suggest you change it before the post gets removed.  Here's more information on that: https://permies.com/t/106410/discussion-questions-comments-moderation-Tinkering

The question is currently problem-focused and talks about the spray a lot.  This is almost guaranteed to attract trolish behaviour from other posters who will also focus on the problem.  It's unlikely you will get a usable answer from the way the question is currently worded.  This is why problem-focused topics are restricted to the cider press.

I think what you want to ask is how to create protection from sprays your upwind neighbour uses.

If you can re-word the question to focus on the solution you are looking for rather than starting and going on and on about the problem, that's something we can talk about on the main forums and is far more likey to get a useful answer.

Otherwise, earn some more apples and post to the cider press.

Great suggestion - thank you!

Agreed, I think there's room for a careful discussion of "nettlesome dust" that crosses the fenceline.

I suspect that direct references to the offending chemistry set off a storm of bull-cookies that our volunteer moderators have to clean up. It's not just a simple discussion amongst reasonable humans; it's the bot-verse that harvests this stuff and attracts trolls and trouble.

I wonder if calling it 'dust' mght be confusing?
It seems as though other acceptable threads mention 'it' by name once or twice and then get down to solutions?

You could look for ways to prevent anything from drifting in on the air without naming it.

Moderation standards evolve over time. We usually don't moderate old content to comply with current standards.

Edge cases cause headaches for the moderation team who have already spent hours agonizing over this issue. Today, we put together a guidance sheet for staff, and added it to the staff training tools to help for next time.

I suspect a lot of posts get removed before the public sees them,  and are removed quietly.

Often the moderation decisions are made with more information than is obvious from the public view.

For my style of moderation,  I will let mentions slide so long as the wording is obvious without being a known word that attracts corporate trolls and the post is focused on the solution,  not the problem.   But more and more,  these still devolve into chaos and we are needing to keep even light mentions in the cider press.

But that's okay because it's pretty easy to earn the right to post there.

I have no doubts about behind the scenes angst over questionable posts...and I very much appreciate and thank all of the staff for the work they do.
...as joseph says, the guidelines evolve.

I can certainly manage to call 'it' dust from now on
