The answer may say a lot about your personality. A survey done by the University of Texas at Austin found that some common ideas about pet lovers may be true. Do you prefer to spend time on your own? Always game to try new things? Then you could be a cat person. The survey found that cat owners were more likely to be curious, unconventional in thinking and actions, and more prone to worry than dog people.
The Typical Dog Person
If dogs tend to be energetic, faithful, and easy to get along with, well, so do the people who love them. But survey author and psychologist Sam Gosling, PhD, admits that the differences between cat and dog people aren't huge. "There are certainly many, many cat people who are extroverts and many, many dog people who aren't," Gosling says.

Fostering them through winter before adopting (financial reasons as to why i can't adopt right away. Old Dog New Digs will pay for their vet care through the winter (have been some what neglected.)

Only cats I have had have been feral cats. They stay in my garage and I bring food out to them. They come and go as they please and will be back when they are hungry. That goes the same for the birds, squirrels (ground and flying), chipmunks, grouse, turkeys, deer, ermine, bobcat, bear, coons, etc, etc.
I smile when I see these types of comparisons. Personally, I don't feel the need to specifically be a cat or a dog type of person. I have had many cats and I presently have one, adorable, loyal, absolutely dependable and lovable dog. It is hard to imagine living without either type of pets. In fact, one of the slides even mentioned that there are probably very few, if any differences between "cat" and "dog" people. I tend to agree with that statement. But I love both cats and dogs and I think that both make a wonderful addition to a family/household. I foresee myself having both for some time.

I have never seen a blind guide cat or a cat used by the military for guarding, sniffing out bombs, etc. As for therapy, both are used as well as many other animals (my autistic grandson rides a horse every Saturday for therapy.) As for politics, you will find dog and cat people on both sides. Compassion for animals has nothing to do with politics.

I will ad this bit to my last statement. We do naturally get attached to our pets--that's why we get them in the first place. We also tend to project our thoughts/feelings into the responses of our pets. I am not going to say that the pet makes the person, but rather the reverse. To a degree, our own feelings about our pets makes us attribute special meaning to our pets based on our own emotions, regardless of what the pet actually does. This is a normal outgrowth of caring for another creature.
