I wanted to share on here, as I feel like this is one of the few places where I would find folks who understand. I find it to be offensive that we use beautiful clean drinking water, mix it with our bodily wastes and turn it into black water. It just rubs me the wrong way.

SO, I have been peeing outside while at home. I either pee directly onto the ground OR pee in a quart mason jar and dump it where I want (some areas of my property are very visible from the road and I must hide behind the shed or some trees to pee). I then wash the mason jar with a little water. The mason jar is marked with duct tape, so that I know which one it is. It makes me feel good to add Nitrogen to my land and plants, while also reducing my water use. I figure every time I do this, I'm saving about 3-4 gallons of water.

It's not much, but I feel like I'm going in the right direction.

Thanks for letting me share!

I totally agree and do the same! My pet project--well one of them---is finding a way to use grey water for toilets in a way which becomes sop someday!

I just love it after dark, and especially during the middle of the night, the whole place is wide open for fertilizing, even right next to the road... Skirts are so nice: Discreet as can be.

And to save answering the question later... Always commando.

Almost always, wife doesn't like to go outside in the middle of the night. Where we live, there are no neighbors to worry about. We recycle the gray water, treat and reuse the black water which is not much of our water anyway.

I have a bucket in my bathroom, and I've begun pouring it on my compost out back--and this is the first year, in my ten years of gardening, that my pile is hot enough to steam. I'm thrilled! I don't go outdoors in my own garden, as we're surrounded by neighbors, but my husband does it straight into the compost bin. I first heard of peeing on compost about 7 or 8 years ago, on a talk show on BBC Radio 2 (the Jeremy Vine Show). I couldn't believe what I was hearing, but have since been converted

Great to see another women peeing outside thread

I pee outside whenever I can. Mostly at night but during the day too if the situation is right. It's the not using potable water thing, and the fertilising thing, but as well as that I think women's pelvic floors are designed around squatting multiple times in a day and this keeps them healthy. Good for the hips and the other muscles involved too.

Because female urination necessarily concentrates all of the waste in one place, you're at risk of adding too much nitrogen to that spot and burning the vegetation. It would probably be better to collect and broadcast it, or at the very least make sure you go in a different area each time.

The exact same thing happens with dogs. Males can naturally broadcast urine over a wider swath of vegetation: this is fertilizer. Females deposit a full bladder in one spot, and the result is nitrogen burning.

I think that really depends on the person. Apparently some people have more potent pee than others.

I've never seen nitrogen burn from myself peeing outside, but I pee in different places each time. The times I've seen nitrogen burn is when guys go outside at night and pee in the same spot.

I pee in a bucket and dilute it when I water my plants - usually using greywater, always outdoors. We have a compost toilet and too much liquid isn't good for it. I hate peeing outdoors, but the bucket solution works fine for me. Good idea about the compost heap - I'll tell the boys In dryland areas it is really important not to pee in the same place over and over- even this winter we had issues bc. we had a long period of very little rain, and the plants would die where my son peed in the morning (I have heard that pee from young boys are esp. potent). Another solution is to pour it into gravel filled swales - that way it goes underground immediately and the salt doesn't sit on top of the ground to burn of the plants as soon as the sun hits.
