New to Permies. Younger Artist couple looking for small community NW coast-Ish !

Dear Permies Community.  
 
    My name is Shaun, I travel in a pack with my beautiful girlfriend Olivia. I am 27 years old, Olivia 22, we are currently Artists living in a small shore town in New Jersey. We have both lived here for most of our lives so far. Olivia runs an online ETSY store selling original handmade dreamcatchers....I mainly have worked a career as a professional Tattoo Artist, for the past 8 years.. Most people would think I'm crazy to leave a booked up busy lifestyle, with rare, good paying job. However, I have been fading it out. I have spend countless hours just sitting in a chair indoors, stressing over people thoughts visions, and self doubt. Wondering how everyday I was missing on some more important features of our short time on this earth. I have always grown up with a garden, and trees all around me, this is where I find the most peace, and true happiness.


I am very new to the Permies community, however i have spent countless hours on youtube, dealing with Homesteading, and permaculture,DIY over the past few years, practicing concepts and techniques to our micro-homstead were at now ( parents backyard with packed  with neighbors that don't get it surrounding us,yuck! )and in the wilderness.  I definitely recognize some of you from the youtube community I see on here already!

We are looking to get to land as soon as possible, we very well know and appreciate the value of building for yourself, and caring, preparing land,and the time that in takes to transform a small clearing into a shelter for ourselves, Or towards helping other build shelters. Being new here I don't want to just spew out our every little thought we have  on the planet. But just to be brief and sum some things up about ourselves. we have mainly lived on the East Coast, but we just spent some time living in Colorado, originally looking to get to the mountains and wilderness more often than not, ended up chasing a hustle and bustle lifestyle, only to realize there is no way we could support that long term. Olivia and I felt forced to just get back to New Jersey till we can save little and recover from all the expenses that were drained. We also chose after moving back home, not being able to maintain good credit and loaned car, none of that really matters to us, we are here to get back to the land, take care of each other, with a few other amazing people along the way. We are looking to land on the north west coast as part a never-ending dream, that escapes the chaos of modern younger people surrounding us today. We absolutely positively, want to learn and create with just a few others, feed off each other mentally and skillfully, on a daily basis, I was always bothered by people saying "you learn something new everyday" while its still a rad truth, I believe there is so much information in this universe, people should be learning multiple new things everyday about the earth, each other, themselves, how to self sustain, etc. We want freedom, Prophecy, and ancient wisdom. Olivia and I enjoy doing work all by hand, we only own a minor small amount of power tools. But we are both super fast hands on learners, looking to leave a healthier footprint for future generations, and believe multiple brains could be put to more use's, feeding off of each other,  and a bit healthier for problem solving!. We are super friendly, and open minded, young willing and able, highly determined, but we need some HELP!   Here are some things we are looking for!!!

     - Open minded small group of people who care about this planet.!!!
     - Wanting to help assist improving land, in trade for a space.
     - Open to recycled style building
     - Artistis freedom, (painting pretty murals on fences, coops, rocks, signs, shelters)
     - Gardens everywhere, duh!
     - More artistic freedom in helping create abstract structures , and uses of functionality
     - Post office somewhat nearby , just for online business shipping, Can be done about once a week.
     - Preferably Oregon, or Washington somewhat towards the coast-ish

You should also check out ic.org.....the premier website for intentional communities.  Searchable by keyword and location.  Chances are likely there are communities in the area you're considering to look into, perhaps just as visitors or short-term volunteers; or perhaps even to join.  Getting access to land and learning the skills necessary to live well are often challenges for newcomers to the lifestyle; community helps with both.

I hope you find what you are looking for. Here in redwood country just outside Crescent City, CA there is a massive permaculture vacuum. Land is cheaper than anywhere in California, and yet we have the highest biomass on Earth just 10 minutes drive and 20min walk away! We are in zone 9a-b depending on microclimate, but with a cool high end (90f). 10mi inland near Gasquet it gets to 100f but the smith river is right there and is the largest undammed watershed in the country so the swimming holes are second to none (20ft cliffs into 15ft of clear water are common). You could find anywhere between 30-120" of rain within 30mi of here (near the HWY 101 and 199 JCT). We have 5,000ft peaks within less than an hour's drive, 7300 in view from the oceanfront, and lots of land for sale by the county (Del Norte) and other random parcels in the hills going up there. I assume you would be far better for the land than most who would buy it, so come on over to Caltucky and do some permaculture with the small but growing community of good people here!

Hey Shaun and Olivia I think I have similar visions as you guys. I'm 25, working doing carpentry and getting going on a farmstead when the snow melts. I just bought 10.5 acres that I really like here in the fall. I'm definitely open to teaming up. I'm located 12 miles south of sandpoint idaho in the north panhandle.

Would love to talk at least and see what you guys are hoping for.

I'd love to chime in here and join forces.  I just got out here from FL and am amazed at how much happier I am out west already.  I'm from upstate NY with several years living in the city.  I feel your story and am digging the pictures.  I have a PDC and am here looking for work and a place to park my van and cat.

Before I get into the nitty gritty, I'd like to tell you a bit about myself -I'm valisa-31, pronouns: she/her, queer as a 3 dollar bill (important to mention as I don't tolerate bigotry of any kind), feminist that supports intersectional feminism, currently work in a hospital and attending school for resp. Therapy and previous career in mental health (6 years rape trauma and DV, along with behavior modification), small farming experience (grew up with a large garden, chickens, ducks, geese, horses, rabbits, etc), cook vegan (not a necessary-I'm not militant about it-just a personal choice), I'm all about clean eating and a healthy lifestyle but I'm very science minded and logical about it-herbal remedies are awesome but not a cure-all and I feel that's important to understand, also, I use to be incredibly rowdy and loved trouble a bit but have calmed over the years so I'm not a heavy drinker, also, I'm familiar with small community living and before major plans happen I like to chat with folks, meet, Skype...whatever to ensure everyone is compatible for living, learning, and growing together ^.^

I'm not sure if you are in any rush to move but if not I may have kind of a sweet situation. I'm in school for another 2.5 years then I will be moving  to my 40 acres in Oregon. It's zoned to build, has part of a large river running through it (I have the mineral rights for the property as well), about 45 minutes out from a descent sized town.

So here's the thing, I haven't started the homestead yet so it's just land. I begin prepping the land next summer. So far there's me and a couple of others (I met through the punk scene and from when I use to hitchhike).  All are incredible people, VERY aware (in terms of social justice/human experience type shit) good humans that are driven to do this as well and very hard working.

Anyway! I don't want to ramble on too much about this until I know if 2.5 years is too far out or not-feel free to reach out if you are interested and we can continue to discuss.

I realize that this is an older post, but if the original posters or anyone else is having a similar vision or goal, I am in sort of a predicament where I could really use more hands on 10 acres I already own in North Idaho. I actually might have goals to try to move to the Oregon area eventually, though that isn't certain yet, and if someone was willing to help me get the 10 acres in Idaho into a better position to sell (and they could live there rent free while working on it) then we could work together on choosing a new place in Oregon, if that was our goal, or I could find a way to sell to you guys directly or give you a cut when we moved on. I am pretty laid back, if unconventional. Haha. A lot has happened since I bought this place... The biggest factor probably being that an unexpected pregnancy turned out to be spontaneous triplets. I very much want to be making progress in that area of my goals/life, but I just don't feel that I have the hands and time to do it myself and take care of all of these toddlers!
