Here is my submission for the Natural Medicine Aspect - Wood - Watson List - Help with Obesity BB.

O72 (pseudonym) has been overweight since 8th grade.  During COVID, her weight ballooned to even higher than when she was pregnant.

Books and Online Research and Learning:
  - The Obesity Code: Unlocking the Secrets of Weight Loss, a book by Jason Fung
  - youtube research - initially with Dr Eric Berg - fasting and ketogenic videos
  - Learn about calories, glucose, insulin, and fasting
  - The prescription of weight loss often referred to as 'Eat Less, Move More' is a lie

My suggestions for relief and results
Behavioral Suggestions and Compliance:
      1. significantly reduce snacking and reduce the number of times calories are consumed each day
      2. increase daily fasting window to 13 hours (which she started in September)
      3. increase daily or intermittent fasting window to 16 hours consistently (October - December)
      4. sporadically complete longer fasts - 18 or 24 hours (2022)
      5. Complete 1 fast of 72 hours (March 2024)

Food as medicine recommendations and activities she did:
      1. reduce processed wheat and sugar (all types of refined/processed foods)
      2. reduce or eliminate coffee with sugar and milk
      3. increase organically grown foodstuffs

Results
- significantly reduced snacking, eliminated daily coffee consumption, significantly reduced processed foods (including flour, sugar, inflammatory oils - corn, soy, etc)
- increase consumption of vegetables and healthy fats (olive, avocado, coconut)
- eliminated daily coffee consumption in November thus increasing my fasting window as she was no longer sipping on coffee with sugar and milk all morning
- weight reduction of over 35 pounds as evidenced by photos below in which she is wearing the same jeans

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following photos to supplement the above information:
 - photo - Summer 2021 - weight 277 - very snug jeans
 - photo - early April 2022 - weight 240 - need a belt

Martha has stuggled with her weight since she had her kiddos and her weight has been creeping higher and higher. In April 2024 she hit 274 lbs.

Suggestions:
Staying active- daily
Reduce food intake
Eat quality home cooked meals
Cut out or reduce snacks
Cut out or reduce evening dessert of ice cream

Actions taken:
Staying active goes in streaks but has improved
Does eat smaller meals
Nearly all food is organic or better
Almost all snacking has stopped except for the occasional apple
Tried cutting out dessert but didn't stick with it, tried reducing amount but that didn't last. Now eats yogurt while others in household eat ice cream and feels satisfied.

Reports that "it's easier to stay active when there's less of me."

Results:
Weight 274 - 238 = 36 lbs
BMI 47.15 - 41.15 = 6.00
