Hello,
I have dropped a 7” live tree with a chainsaw.  I selected this tree because it was in a cluster of 4 trees all within a 6'circle.  Three need to go and this one had a significant lean and was closest to the one that we want to keep.

Pictures Include:
1) Cluster of four trees
2) Selected tree with the wedge notch cut
3) tree on the ground

Staff note (jordan barton) :

This seems to be on the edge for photos. I would like it to be a closer up photo of the notched cut. However
I certify this badge bit complete.

Staff note (jordan barton) :

Along with your woodland care air badge!

The pictures will probably be way on the edge of acceptable, but at the time I wasn't cutting down a tree for a badge. :) The birch in the pictures was getting too close to the power lines to the cabin, and my buddy wanted it down so he didn't have to worry about it falling over onto the lines in a windstorm.

The birch in question can be seen next to the power pole. There was more tree to it at one time, but that had been cut down years before. This guy was about 6-8" diameter if I had to guess. Since it was already leaning the direction I needed, didn't need much of a notch.

Asked him if he had any more pictures of me taking down the tree, but I think we were both more involved with watching the tree come down safely than taking pictures.

Serious lean on that birch

Can see the notch/slant of the cut on the stump behind me as I cut it into ~18-24" logs for firewood

Note: Sorry, we need to see the notch cut.  There's always next time!  Good job locking out your elbow!

Can you hear that? That's my theme music. I don't know where it comes from. Check under this tiny ad:
