Strange, some of the posts are gone. Is this move like head trauma, some of the memories are not recovered?

Still checking things out....

some of the signatures with links do not seem to be working. is this because the software is written in java

No, this is because the new forum software handles signatures differently than the old forum software. If issues are big enough, we will try to fix them.

My only glitch was that I changed my email...probably while the boards were being switched. I've reset it on the new site, so all should be OK now.

And now signatures are broken onto multiple lines if that is what the original person wanted.

For the link, you should use BB tags to enclose the link and text
  • Try: Attempting to Live More Sustainably Through Frugality and Permaculture Principles
  • Should appear as: Attempting to Live More Sustainably Through Frugality and Permaculture Principles

I had a bear of a time logging on.
Ended up deleting firefox entirely, including all bookmarks/passwords/cookies/history, using Google chrome to download firefox 8.0, installing it, then doing a lost password recovery act while standing on one foot with my left arm in the air.

    I hate technology.

Unfortunately the new forum software won't help in these circumstances. This is a real person creating an account and then creating the spam message.

Yeah, the only way to control this is to put new users on moderated status, but that has downsides and isn't foolproof anyway. I think the community as a whole does a pretty good job of stomping on this behavior.

I like that the reply box is under the last post now so you can see what you are replying to. The rest of it will take a little getting used to..it's so close to what it was before that it feels a little surreal.

    Hey Pam....

You can use the Edit button now instead, as for your new last name - I found this post by Paul

This software needs a first name and a last name. So on transition, if you had just one name, half of the people were assigned "hatfield" as a last name, and the other half got "mccoy".

Your right, you were given a new last name! I'm sure you can edit this to be your real last name in your profile settings, see button at the top of each page.

You should be subscribed to the same topics and the same forums that you were previously subscribed to. You can see what you are watching (subscribed to) by looking at the "My Bookmarks and Watches" page (one of the links at the top of the page).

JForum does not have the concept of subscribing to the entire site. You could subscribe to the RSS feed for all recent topics though.

Jami McBride wrote:Also, why does Jacque get to be 'gardener' *whine*

New members get the moniker "sprout". Those that have posted 30 times get the title "gardener". Those that are invited to be staff members get the title "staff". These may be adjusted in the near future, so feel free to bribe Paul discuss alternatives.

Paul is unlikely to be up and working on the site at 11:45 at night. I suspect someone else

    Jami McBride wrote:

I think Paul is Supreme Commander - the two titles are too close. You don't really want to be mistaken by a freaky-tall man in overalls do you?

Have you looked at editing your profile? As a staff member, you should have two extra options under the "Preferences" section. Don't play with the second last one - I am not sure why it is displaying those particular options, so I am not sure what will happen if you change it.

    Thanks for the directions Andrew.

Can you fix the text sitting on top of the signature or very bottom of each post box thing?
Adding a couple of blank lines after the text really helps readability.

feel free to bribe Paul discuss alternatives.

It is very doable, however it requires a new deployment of the software. I'll have a chat to Paul and see where he wants this prioritized.

Jami McBride wrote:Maybe you and I can be new best friends.... you seem to know how this new software works.

Be careful - I don't know the difference between weeds and plants. Are you sure you want to be friends now?

(Having said that, I was able to convince a work-colleague that LED lights were better than CFLs, and I may get my neighbor looking at rocket-mass heaters, so it is not all lost for me. And my neighbor wants me to put a bee hive in my back yard next spring).

I have several times, and I don't see any place to edit/change the - Ranking: staff Custom Title: Bartender-Babe -

Also I cannot add forums to my 'watch' list. Strange they are listed, but some are missing and I cannot edit what I have as far as I can tell. Seems like this should be changeable and not static.

Is there documentation for this new ride?

I just checked the source code, and apparently someone decided that this was not a staff editable function. I'll discuss this with Paul in the morning. I'll put you back to being plain staff for the moment.

You should be able to see every one that you are currently watching. If you can't see something, you are not watching it.

If you want to watch a forum, go to that forum, and down the bottom of the page there should be a button - . Click on it and you will start watching that forum. There is a similar button for watching topics. And if you are watching a topic or a forum then the button changes to an "unwatch" button.

    Jami McBride wrote:

I was having difficulties too: even clicking "forgot password" and following the link, i'd get a message saying that the password wasn't valid.

Additionally - how does one sign up for a new account now? I tried doing that but couldn't figure out how.

What worked for me: clearing Firefox's cache, restarting Firefox, then following the emailed link again. Didn't have to stand on one leg either.

I had reset my password three times but the red warning text is still on the top of the page.
My new thread (topic) from yesterday is gone and I cannot modify my previous posts. The former is probably just part of the switch but the latter is an omission of the new feature set.

The warning is still on the top of the page for me as well but it doesn't seem to mean anything as I got the notification of new posts and was connected without issue.
