this information is not easy to find. a search of anthropological literature might turn up some good stuff. if there's a university close by, I would be willing to be that the reference librarians there would be a big help. you might also check an old-time or modern herbal, though I'm not sure how much help either of those would be.

where I'm at, Queen Anne's Lace seeds and thuja foliage are the botanical solutions I'm aware of. elsewhere, there are plenty of others.

Thanks, good starter tips, anyway

My question is also for other types of natural approaches, the most common being "Rhythm Method", which involves temperature charting, monitoring cervical mucus and keeping a menstrual calendar. This type of info is easy to find, but I wonder which sources are the most reliable

have her hold a penny between her knees. Birth control historically was hard to find but Culpeppers herbal has some info (grain of salt needed) the chinese have a few methods, I do believe a method was common in the Muslim world (might be a touchy subject however and i dont know that is has been written down). I would suggest sheep skin condoms they cost a bit but they work and dont have latex.

That might be okay, as long as the information is really good. Thanks !

Thanks.

Aside from being good info to know for these times, I think we're heading into a type of Survival Era, which will last perhaps some decades. I think many things will become unavailable or unaffordable, perhaps including many birth control supplies, so I think knowledge like this is good to gather for then, while it is easier to gather it. To give to others who will need it, if nothing else

best birth control i know is to teach boys that girls are partners not slaves to be exploited and raped whenever they feel an itch. society wont flourish if it lacks real men with a deep respect for woman.

Here is a link I found very helpful, written by another permie!
6 steps to natural contraception

She talks about more than herbalism, but the two herbs she discusses are queen anne's lace and tansy.

This may be a reflection on the people involved more than the practice itself, but I know someone who had six kids using the rhythm method

Yes, the old joke goes: "What do you call people who use the Rhythm Method?" Answer: "Parents."

However, I also know people crash their cars all the time, while I know others who never do...

In other words, it apparently depends greatly on how well you use the Rhythm Method. How disciplined you are, etc.)

Thanks

Yes, this is much needed, globally. I just picked up on book on the Rhythm Method and the first thing it says is that is has to be cooperative effort between the partners involved. This only makes sense. What's the use of a woman carefully charting her period and body signs, when her ogre husband is into sex-on-demand? So, yeah, respect, cooperation and discipline are basic, otherwise, don't bother...

Hygieia: a woman's herbal is the best I have found.

http://www.amazon.com/Hygieia-Womans-Herbal-Jeannine-Parvati/dp/0913512540/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1329095442&sr=8-1

Aside from that -- I highly, highly, highly recommend permanent surgical sterilization. The sex is much better afterwards (fear totally kills the mood) and it's quick, easy and cheap. Of course I'm speaking of males getting the snip, not female tubal ligation. Females' sterilization is five times more expensive, can have horrible and deadly complications, and requires days of rest -- Vasectomies are easy and quick and you can work the next day. Don't ask me why some men insist on thinking that their sense of self is directly connected to the health and vitality of their Spermatozoa after they've left the body, that never made sense to me. Seriously -- snip them Vas Deferens and you'll never have to worry again.

I am the seventh of ten children conceived using the rhythm method. My mother said she became pregnant in EVERY part of her cycle. I learned in a class on human sexuality that some women ovulate as a result of sexual excitation. Evolution, it's impressive!
Sorry, nothing further to add, my foolproof method involves being gay.

Possible. That's why you wait xx days until the pipes have cleaned out, then bring a nice magazine and go give a sample to make ABSOLUTELY SURE.

I am here to vouch that it absolutely works. To my complete and utter delight. Repeated delight. Speaking of 'repeated', pardon me, I have some... thing... to go... do.

For the guys,I would suggest keeping yourself flat broke with no prospect of improvement. If she mentions anything about a job, just spout some lefty trite and go back to meditating. This will sereiously screw with your "opportunity to impregnate".

To quote the rapper, Young M.C. "If ya got no money and ya got no car, then ya got no women, and there you are."

Susun Weed's "Wise Woman Herbal For The Childbearing Year" is hands down the best book on female reproductive care I have ever found. She has a list in this book of herbs that help to stimulate and encourage the monthly blood cycle, also herbs that can sterilize naturally. I have been interested in natural methods of birth control for quite some time. Pulling out DOES NOT WORK! hahaha After having my 4th child I became very serious about finding a natural solution, as pharma's pills, rings, IUDs, hormone hijackings, shots, surgery and the rest of it is too dangerous to even consider (at least for me). So I started charting my cycle, not tracking useless things like temps or using any kind of device tho. I track my moods, vaginal mucus (texture/color/consistency- as these are all indicators of where I am in my cycle and indicates fertile days) and I also chart my desire for sex. I like to look back and see how my patterns unfold so that I am more attuned to my body's natural cycles. This information and practice gained has been life transforming for me, as I feel more attuned to the Natural Cycles of the Earth and Moon and Her Seasons as I attune to my body. To do this, I just got a folder, made up some charts (I can share them if any are interested). I chart daily, and 2 days before my expected start date, I start drinking some homemade Ginger Beer, (Ginger Tea would work too, but I find the Fermented Ginger to be more reliable and potent). Ginger stimulates the womb, and moves the energy in that area and stimulates the moon blood to start. Its worked wonderfully for me so far, and I'm wicked fertile! It would help greatly if the woman cultivates a friendly, loving respect for her uterus, her moon cycle and the power that brings, rather than the all too common attitude toward female fertility known as "the curse". Attitude weighs heavily on a woman's creative aspect.

My wife and I have practiced natural birth control for the three years that we have been married and have had no problems (kids) yet. We took the class from the "Couple to Couple Leage" Called "The Art of Natural Family Planning". I highly recommend it.

Black Cohosh, according to some of my N/A friends, will make the moon cycle start, even if one has conceived. Take for 3 weeks, then stop, to allow the menstrual cycle. Helps regulate periods for those who are irregular, too.

100% effective until 1964, when someone invented "alternative positioning"...

Queen anns lace seed!!! It seemed there were alot of nay sayers about practicing fertility awareness but that in conjunction with taking queen anns seed when I get nervous has worked for me for the past 2 years. If I have unprotected sex 6 days before I obvulate, during ovulation, or a few days after, or am just nervous cause my periods gone wack, I'll take a pinch of the seeds in my mouth a few hours after my "experience" and chew until I get what I perceive is a table spoon and a half of medicine juice adding more seeds to get there If I need it. I'll take it three times a day for two to six days depending on my worries. I have been super sloppy and I still havent gotten pregnant ince I got pregnnt using condoms and had to induce an herbal abortion. A great read is "fertility awareness" I believe you can find it on Zine library.
I know that there are people who take queen anns daily kind of like "the pill" Anywho, I have only written a little about thi and so I recommend learning more about all this if you have specific questions I can do my best.

Also I have heard neem is something persons with a penis can take as a daily tonic to deaden their sperms ability to travel. I am not super familiar but if one could find good information its worth looking into.

I think you meant BLUE cohosh, rather than black. Black cohosh is used mainly for menapause issues, Blue cohosh is a strong and effective abortifactant.

Our regular regimen is Wild carrot seed tincture (queen anne's lace) for Her, neem leaf 3x extract daily for Him. Blue Cohosh tincture for emergencies. And always pull out. It has worked perfectly for 3 1/2 years (had two children previously).

While many of these suggestions would certainly lower the likelyhood of conception, when a man is free with his seed there are no guarantees. He simply must either be prepared for the possibility of fertilization, or not ejaculate inside. I have never had a pregnancy scare due to the simple fact that I control my seed placement. The next level of course would be the upward draw, or climax without ejaculation, as many believe that that is a man's life force energy. so to release it is to deplete his reserves. Something to ponder I suppose.

Oh, and there is nothing natural about a vasectomy, castration is more natural then the big V..just sayin

substantial numbers of sperm exit significantly prior to ejaculation. if there's a penis in a vagina, the possibility of fertilization exists, regardless of whether, where, or how ejaculation occurs.

For legal reasons I can't go into details, but I can assure that I was very nearly a mother at 14 because of some exceedingly good truck driver.

Keep those loads covered - you never know when something is going to fall off the back of the lorry and end up under the gooseberry bush!

i agree with Tet J. about Taking Charge of YOur Fertility, author, Toni Weschler. gratitude for this book.

Ms. Weschler provides women with a method of self observation that allows women to realize if and when they are ovulating.

Ms. Weschler calls her method FertilityAwareness. it is very, very different than the rhythm method.

the Fertility Awareness method of observation maybe used to optimize chances of becoming pregnant or to avoid pregnancy.

.

respect

Reproduction is the Prime Directive of all living beings. Birth control is not natural. "Life finds a way." Natural skin condoms are nearly natural and do not involve trying to alter a very powerful physical natural drive with flowers and roots. Herbs and basal monitoring may have some effectiveness but do they overcome what the young persons cells are trying to achieve ? Have fun trying ! You will need to step into the unnatural world of vasectomy , etc. to be truly effective at pregnancy prevention .
