The poinsettia (/pɔɪnˈsɛtiə/ or /pɔɪnˈsɛtə/)[1][2] (Euphorbia pulcherrima) is a commercially important plant species of the diverse spurge family (Euphorbiaceae). Indigenous to Mexico and Central America, Europeans described it in 1834. It is particularly well known for its red and green foliage and is widely used in Christmas floral displays

And if you decide to make any of these for Christmas decor, why not take some pictures and post them here!

And post the pictures to earn some PEP Oddball Points:

They're all so pretty! I hadn't thought about crafts like that being used for Oddball points. You have my wheels turning now...

Great timing.  I got my first Poinsettia this year.  It has red and white colour.
Not sure if I'll be able to keep it alive, but I got a small one with the idea that maybe it would grow and be bigger next winter.

Is it time to put my poinsettia in the dark yet?  Is it 100% dark or is it just too dark to be a plant dark?

I had to look this up to figure out what question you're asking!

I'm sure many permies know what you're talking about, but for people as clueless about seasonal vegatative decor as me, here is what uncle Google says:

During the day, poinsettia plants require as much bright light as possible in order to absorb enough energy for color production. At night, however, poinsettia plants must not receive any light for at least 12 hours. Therefore, it may be necessary to place plants in a dark closet or cover them with cardboard boxes.

I love this time of year because this is when I get to see poinsettia plants almost everywhere.

IT is National Poinsettia Day!
