I'm in Caerphilly county in the south Wales valleys and a newbie to permaculture and forest gardening.

I found this site some time ago but couldn't make head or tail of the format! (Probably giving away my age range here! I am 53.)

I've returned, feeling determined to get the hang of it, because I would really like to have like minded people to talk to.

Hi Beverly!

I used to live near Ebbw Vale, not too far from you. I found the Valleys to be quite a tough place to grow - but the wildlife loved my garden and it was a great place to enjoy the summer. I loved being able to get up into the hills so easily and managed to forage a lot of food, materials for crafting and fuel for the wood burner.

Welcome (back) to Permies.

Hi Beverley, 53 sounds like a perfectly good age (same as me I think ?!). You soon get the hang of Permies, although I think our mobile format is still a bit challenging - people are working on improving it, but most are volunteers. If you need help post in the tinkering forum and hoards of helpful helpers will advise. We've all been newbies one time. Have a browse round the forums at the subjects that interest you, and welcome aboard!

Yes, Ebbw Vale is very close to us, we are at the northern end of Caerphilly county. I've found that what wants to grow here grows very vigorously indeed, some other things that I used to grow easily in Cwmbran, where we lived before, just aren't interested in surviving here at all!

But the wildlife is fabulous, so many species that I've never seen before.

🙂
