We are considering going the yurt route. We've stayed in a few over the years and they really appeal to us.

As we look for land in WA state, I would like an idea of what counties are yurt friendly via permitting. I've read that some only require a permit for the deck, as the yurt is considered a temporary structure. I'd love to get some details from those actually doing the yurt thing on how you handled or creatively worked around local permitting and codes departments. I'd also appreciate knowing the county, if you are comfortable sharing.

Double check everything for yourself but Mason County doesn't require a permit for yurts including electrical and plumbing as long as you have a septic on file.  Decks 30 inches or less above grade don't need permits either.  Jefferson County has similar rules.

Installing a wood stove in Washington state with out a permit in a yurt and then renting out said yurt has caused  a cascade of problems. Be careful.
