I was just wondering if anyone has a creative way to keep track of eggs?  I enjoy having my eggs in a cute little basket on the kitchen counter. The problem with this is, It's hard to keep track of the older ones we should use first. I don't want a bunch of baskets on the counter. I try to remove the eggs in the basket and put the fresh eggs on the bottom, and put the others on top, but this is a pain, and those times we aren't eating many eggs, it can get confusing with several layers.
What do you do?

I don't have chickens, but if I did, I'd want someone to make me something like this. Maybe woven with basket materials instead of metal.

That rack that Nikki shared is a really good idea.

I always used the paper cartons from the grocery store to keep my eggs in.

The newest eggs were always placed on the bottom of the stack.

When we were getting too many surplus eggs I started putting a date on the cartons.

I found this on Pinterest.
I’m going to use something very similar for the eggs I want to hatch. I’ll have to keep track of eggs laid each day, so I won’t have eggs going cold from a mother hen walking off with hatched chicks, with viable eggs still in the nest.

I had an egg skelter back when we still had chickens.  They used to be really expensive, I had to order mine from England, but now there are a million knockoffs on amazon for like $20.    My mom has a more vertical version that rolls a little smoother.

Edit - did a quick search on amazon for egg skelter, and then another for FIFO Egg (first in first out) and found another design that could probably be adapted to permies preferred materials if you so desired.

Thanks you everyone. I should have known there would be cool things for eggs. Being me, I troll Amazon, find what I like, and now I'm excited to go out to the shop and make what I want. Can't wait. Thank you

I have the egg skelter as well. The newest eggs go in that, then I transfer to egg cartons. I like the days of the week idea. Maybe a plan for the future.
