Rick, The only other beat on vinyl we have is
Allen Ginsberg Reads Kaddish A 20th Century American Ecstatic Narrative Poem
from the Verbum series on Atlantic 4001
cover photo of Allen is a Richard Avedon

...others on vinyl are Ezra Pound (I've got to follow along with the text...his voice is difficult for me...as his poetry)
Henry Miller reading Smile at the Foot of the Ladder and a couple others
and Lawrence Durrell reading Grecian Echoes
and several other spoken word records including a Spiro Agnew just before his fall speaking out against 'the hippies' among other things.
Sorry, everyone for the sidetrack...I am not even listening to these at the moment.

Thanks Judith! Much appreciated.. Too cool!

I've recently saw this artist live. She draws a Beat atmosphere.

It's true...almost everything I need comes through our local thrift store eventually. A (probably) once played 1992 Iris Dement CD "Infamous Angel".
Try "Let the Mystery Be" but I like the whole thing just fine...everybody knows "Our Town". Got to love that voice!
...and she's another Arkansan.

Iris Dement...What a Gem. Thanks again Judith!

Iris Dement - Let the Mystery Be - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlaoR5m4L80

Everybody's wonderin' what and where they all came from.
Everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go when the whole thing's done.
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me.
I think I'll just let the mystery be.

Some say once you're gone you're gone forever, and some say you're gonna come back.
Some say you rest in the arms of the Saviour if in sinful ways you lack.
Some say that they're comin' back in a garden, bunch of carrots and little sweet peas.
I think I'll just let the mystery be.

Everybody's wonderin' what and where they all came from.
Everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go when the whole thing's done.
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me.
I think I'll just let the mystery be.

Some say they're goin' to a place called Glory and I ain't saying it ain't a fact.
But I've heard that I'm on the road to purgatory and I don't like the sound of that.
Well, I believe in love and I live my life accordingly.
But I choose to let the mystery be.

Everybody's wonderin' what and where they all came from.
Everybody's worryin' 'bout where they're gonna go when the whole thing's done.
But no one knows for certain and so it's all the same to me.
I think I'll just let the mystery be.
I think I'll just let the mystery be.

Iris Dement and John Prine Duet - In Spite of Ourselves - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCObON5sJzU

She don't like her eggs all runny
She thinks crossin' her legs is funny
She looks down her nose at money
She gets it on like the Easter Bunny
She's my baby I'm her honey
I'm never gonna let her go

He ain't got laid in a month of Sundays
I caught him once and he was sniffin' my undies
He ain't too sharp but he gets things done
Drinks his beer like it's oxygen
He's my baby
And I'm his honey
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a'sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

She thinks all my jokes are corny
Convict movies make her horny
She likes ketchup on her scrambled eggs
Swears like a sailor when shaves her legs
She takes a lickin'
And keeps on tickin'
I'm never gonna let her go.

He's got more balls than a big brass monkey
He's a whacked out weirdo and a lovebug junkie
Sly as a fox and crazy as a loon
Payday comes and he's howlin' at the moon
He's my baby I don't mean maybe
Never gonna let him go

In spite of ourselves
We'll end up a sittin' on a rainbow
Against all odds
Honey, we're the big door prize
We're gonna spite our noses
Right off of our faces
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.
There won't be nothin' but big old hearts
Dancin' in our eyes.

[Spoken:]
In spite of ourselves

I love John Prine...We saw him a LONG time ago with Arlo Guthrie opening. Funny, I have never come across a castoff record of his, I guess nobody parts with them. We've got a couple copies of Arlo's "Alice's Restaurant" though.

Listening to "Odetta It's a mighty World" RCA Victor LPM-2792. 1964
