I really enjoyed the new film "Beasts of a Southern Wild". It reminded me of the documentary recordings and films of Americana by the great Alan Lomax. Here is a homage in celebration of his birthday.... Alan Lomax (Jan 15, 1915 - July 19, 2002) Sooo many great recordings.... It's hard to choose!

Well, this morning it's "The Patsy Cline Story" the only record we have by her. MCA 2-4038. I have all of the records by women in one section..one eighth of our collection...and it's not for lack of searching...it seems, at least for a long time men were out numbering women in producing records...hopefully that's changed.
For some reason there is a thread at the bottom of this page about opium production and my mind jumped to Chet Baker...I've got a tape somewhere I think I'll go look for.

Thank you Rion and Rick for taking the time to find the music...someday I'll catch up on my you tube viewing.

Hi Judith, Coincidentally, I just watched an enlightening film called " !Women Art Revolution" (2010).
It documents the feminist art movement. Its about a small group of brave, ingenious women who protested vigilantly for recognition and respect in a male dominated art world. It's a fascinating, infuriating, but ultimately inspiring piece of little-known history. Highly recommend.
