Just curious ...  For those without rocket mass heaters, how much wood do you put up for the winter ... and how far north do you live?

4-5 cords a year of mediocre heating wood (birch, poplar, pine and sometimes maple) and I'm in northern WI.

We live in northern Idaho around 48N. We use between 1.5-2 cords of wood per year with a wood stove. But we also live in an ICF built home so our insulation is excellent.

The wood is from our property and it's pine and fir, so not the highest BTU.

somewhat of a hard figure for us as we cook 99% of the time on the wood stove from october-april/may... So for us its more about avoiding using other means to cook with.

We use about 3 cords depending on the year. We are 49* parallel and also on the coast of bc. Around 1000SQFT. Mostly Douglas fir, including branches, and small amounts of Grand fir. Most of it actually is offcuts from the mill that I work at.

One of these days I will convince my partner to switch over to a vortex/walker stove. Currently what we use works ok for most of our cooking needs.
