A car was approaching me and my grandfather from about a half mile away coming from the opposing direction. He looked at me and said, "They smoke cigarettes". As they drove by, we could both see the occupants smoking, so I asked him how he knew from so far away? He said...

"Because if they did not smoke, they could pay another $100 a month on their car payment and not drive such a crappy car".

That never left me, and to this day I have never drank, smoked, or even tried drugs. Clean living did not seem to do much for me when I was in my 20's, but now that I am nearing fifty, it has really added up. I cannot buy a toothpick on credit today; I have absolutely no credit... because for the last ten years everything from cars to equipment I buy with cash.

It was the best fiscal advice I ever got.

I once read where a man had a simple theory;

Smaller was always better

It seemed to simple to sound true, but upon reflection I am noticing that he was almost always right.

Small churches have less problems then mega churches

Small cars are more efficient then SUV’s

Rocket mass heaters are better then outdoor wood boilers

Those are just three examples, but suffering goodness if we applied that thought to a lot of personal and public problems, we might be a much better place.

When it doubt: go with small
