Hi Permies,

I've done some research into which PDCs best match my needs and have come down to

Oregon State (https://workspace.oregonstate.edu/course/permaculture-design-certificate-online)
or
Geoff Lawton (https://www.discoverpermaculture.com/permaculture-design-course-2022)

Wondering if anyone has an informed opinion about either one.
I need to make a decision in the next couple days.

Thanks in advance!
Kevin

Hi Kevin:
You have aske a verry good question as your first post and as a volunteer staff member I have been assigned to give it attention.  You have not filled out your location information in your profile so I do not know if the PNW location makes a difference for you.
I have fallowed Lowton's material for many years and it will give you a very strong international grounding in permaculture design.
The Oregon State course will give you a better opportunity to network with PNW experts facing simlar design questions.
So basically this is your first permaculture design decision: Observing my location, needs and resources which action has the best probability of producing the greatest abundance for myself, my community and the land.

Thank you for joining our community.  We will share with you what we can and look forward to what you can share with us from your learning journey.

That's very helpful Hans! I am in the process of moving to the PNW and so the regional focus and relevancy is definitely a big plus for OSU.
Weighing out the pros and cons, there is a focus in the Lawton syllabus on Aquaculture - which is of interest for me, but maybe not as much as regional expertise might be...

Thanks for weighing in and giving me some food for thought (pun intended).

You might want to check out both instructors on Youtube. I know from first hand experience that the bulk of Geoff Lawton’s PDC is him standing in front of a board, writing and talking. This didn’t work for me. I don’t know what OSU’s lectures are like, I do however find Andrew Millison’s presentations on Youtube very engaging. This is of course a personal preference.

I’m now looking for a PDC where I can study in person. Online learning was my only option when I got serious about permaculture during lockdown.
