Hi ! I've seen this video and was wondering if someone has refurshished a berkey filter? it seems less solid than the plastic ones like brita, so i was not sure if it could handle the process? mine is only 2 years old, so i'm not ready to try it, but i'm curious..!

I use Berkey filters, and I don't think there is loose charcoal inside.
I looked up a video, and he didn't find loose charcoal either. The black stuff is solid, and is the filter element.

I made my own drip system out of big commercial food storage tubs, the things restaurants fill with stuff like potato salad so it can be ready. It uses Berkey or Doulton filters, I'm currently running Berkeys because I need to use the fluoride filter also, and it hooks on the end of a Berkey but not a Doulton. The stainless steel system Berkey sells would be spiffier, but mine was cheap, and works for us.

As far as reworking a Berkey, I'm not sure it can be done other than to clean it well.

Thanks Pearl ! I'm still curious to cut it open anyway, but it is too pricey to do it for fun. But your video seems clear that it is not possible, i wonder how to build a tubular system like that. I am happy anyway to have bought it, it changed my life to not worry anymore about safe drinking water. I will read more about extend the service life of my filters and maybee buy some extra in case they stop selling them before i need new one.
