Does anyone out there know anything about replacing the pull/latch mechanism on a pocket door?  The pocket door on our bathroom of 18 years just broke off—I pulled the tab to pull it and the little tab just snapped off.

I am looking around the internet and finding a wide variety of latches.  Furthermore, I have disassembled the remaining latch as much as possible and found it to be firmly held in place by…..magic?  It looks like it should just fall off but it is firmly stuck in place.

I have replaced plenty of regular door knobs before but this is definitely different.  I don’t know if there are different sizes or standards.

Thanks in advance.

Could you take a picture of it with the door pulled out a enough to see the entire lock?

I repaired one of those last week.
The screws were misplaced.  They are sometimes called 'cavity sliding door locks'

John, everyone,

In my case the little pull handle that pulls out from the lock physically broke in two pieces, so I am looking at getting a new lock altogether.

One of the factors I am looking at is how the latch mechanism attaches to the door.  On my door, the existing latch is apparently held in place by magic—I can’t actually see anything holding it in place.  This is also a problem for getting the existing mechanism out so I can replace with a new one.

My uninformed guess is that it's mostly a friction fit in a bit of a slot - therefore my next attempt would also be to pull harder, or gently tap it with a dead blow and see if it gives.

Yes, and maybe a clearcoat was applied after the latch was installed, sort of glueing it in place. Should be able to knock it out of there with enough force.
