Replacing an old door knob with a new locking door knob. Holes and latch plate easing already fit new hardware, which did make it easier.

The locking mechanism stopped working on one of our exterior doors, so it wouldn't lock at all.

I installed a locking door knob in the bathroom. This required swapping the handles to make the levers point the correct direction, and some minor modification to the hole in the door.

Here is my submission for the Nest Aspect - Straw - Replace a Locking Door Knob BB.

I've arrived at Wheaton Labs for BB20 and one of the Library's doors needs a new locking doorknob so I took on the task.

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
  - before removing the door knob
  - during: old/broken latch mechanism in left hand and new / beefier hardware on table
  - during: installing latch mechanism
  - after installing a locking door knob

Replacing an old door knob and deadbolt with a new locking door knob.
I used existing holes in door so no drilling was necessary.
This was due to the door knob latch not functioning. So I went ahead and just replaced both while I was at it.

I don't know if this counts since this door doesn't have a knob, but it does lock. The handle on the outside broke a few months ago, so it was in desperate need of repair.

My first badge ever! Yay!
My husband and I are repairing and renovating the upstairs of my stepmother's house so we can live with her, therefore some badge bits were done before I knew what they were, but that's ok, plenty more are to come!

Today I removed 4 doorknobs, painted the doors, and put 4 new knobs on (among other things).

HELPFUL HINTS:
(I've been working with my husband for over 10yrs repairing & renovating homes; he's been doing it for 40yrs. Ask us anything if you need free advice.)

- Do NOT overtighten screws on doorknobs or deadbolts, or any related parts. It could cause the knobs, latch, & locks to not move smoothly, or even not turn at all. It is not safe to have a lock or latch that does not move freely. Some people might think the lock is defective, broken, or needs lubrication, when simply backing the screws off is what's needed.

- Visually look at the parts as you're putting them together on the door for a "dummy check". Is the lock on the inside of the room? Is the latch bolt (the part that goes in & out of the edge of the door when you turn the knob) facing the right way so that the door can be pushed closed without needing to turn the knob (smooth sloped side facing door jamb)? If there's a key, will it bug you if the keyhole is "upside down", and is it oriented the same as a deadbolt if there is one? Turning your key "upside down" is annoying with hands full, so if you're used to holding the key a certain way, you can make the keyhole face that way when you install it.

- When finished, confirm that each side of the knob turns and opens the door both clockwise and counterclockwise, and lock it and unlock it (from the inside; don't lock yourself out, haha). Don't assume it works in all directions and then have a child or guest have trouble, possibly getting stuck in a room.
