For anyone who hasn't heard, there's a guy on Reddit who seasoned a cast iron pan with over 80 coats

If you go to r/castiron it's currently at the top of the page. There's lots of good puns, too.

Here's a pic from his thread:

If someone uses a pan every day it takes less than 90 days to get that many coats.

That is a beautiful-looking pan.

I only coat my pans once and after plenty of use, they are not that pretty.

Those guys that do Bar Rescue and Restaurant Impossible would be horrified.

I don't care if my pans are pretty.  They work after many years.

Anne, I think part of the entertainment factor of the conversation is that I presume a lot of people don't realize a pan naturally becomes more seasoned with use. And I think the fascination\ire it draws is that it appears he's not just allowing it to become seasoned as he goes, but he is going through a deliberate ritual to season it every day. If he's deliberately heating an oven with gas or electricity for no other reason, I'm not particularly enthused, but if he's also cooking each time I say no harm done. And at least it's winter so the heat hopefully goes to help heat the house anyway.

Here's an idea! How about people post pictures of some of their own seasoned cooking vessels? It will be neat to see what people are using, and to see who has the prettiest (or gnarliest) and how they compare to the 80 coat pan!

Here is the reddit thread

Don't do this. If you do, share pictures.

Okay. I guess this was for the fascination of just getting comments?

I thought it was like the cast iron cleanup like in these:

If you two don't stop this rough-housing somebody is going to end up crying. Sit down and read this tiny ad:
