I'm in western Washington, zone 7-ish. In 2010 bought 1.68 acres at the edge of the city, snuggled between a residential neighborhood, a 1960's trailer park, auto row, and a 90ac park. Only a mile off the freeway, but tucked into a little backwater neighborhood.  My 20yo fledgling would like to settle here. I am 53 with physical limitations, and we are both Autistic and ADD.

In 2020, my neighbor and I brainstormed ways to keep the community together even when staying isolated. A cooperative garden was the result. Share the work, share the harvest, socially distanced gathering. Keeping in mind permaculture and regenerative practices we've laid out the site, named Nautilus Guild; gardens, orchard guilds, meadow, coppice wood, and a fire pit for gathering.  We have a large seed share box and a food share table.  This year we will finish the greenhouse, add an outdoor kitchen for preserving the harvest, add a shade structure, add beds to the front yard, and install a rain garden/gray water filter.

Last summer I bought 20 used solar panels from a friend whose project went a different way.  I want to mount them in the meadow on a stand alone frame. Probably build a kitchen and classroom underneath, dual function.

Hi Jennifer

I haven’t done an introduction yet on here.  I need to stop lurking and do that.

Thank you foe an interesting post, and the pictures you included.  I had considered something like that during the pandemic, but couldn’t get anyone else behind it.  Did clear a half acre with some friends, planted all of it, and then just shared with friends, neighbors, food bank, and women’s shelters.

A lot of work, and the weeds won, but plenty of fun and fresh food.

You’re doing a very good thing.  Keep up the good human stuff!

Holly was looking awful sad. I gave her this tiny ad to cheer her up!
