Also, are you able to create a new account?

Please state your browser and O/S.

Any accounts with "zzz" in the user name or display name will be deleted later (I've never deleted an account with jforum before - but I suspect we can figure out a way to do it).

If you are willing to try this in several browsers (chrome, firefox, internet explorer, etc.) that would also be helpful.

If this works, several of the CodeRanch staff have been hard at work for the past 48 hours to mend things both here and at CodeRanch. One has worked to the point of succombing to sickness and is still trying to contribute.

Yesterday as we were panicking about problems, Ernest Friedman-Hill put in large tracts of time to try and track down the problem and then Jaikiran Pai jumped in this morning. It looks like Jaikiran did the same thing Ernest did, but somehow Jaikiran has the magic touch. So it seems to be working.

The amount of time these folks have put in to this has been massive. And they are volunteers. And while they support permaculture, they are not bonkers about it like I am.

I just wanna thank the folks that worked so hard to get us back on our feet! Thanks Jaikiran, Ernest and the other contributors from CodeRanch!

So far the forum works on the following browsers for me.I've had my account for a few months now and haven't noticed any problems.

Mozilla FireFox
Mozilla Aurora
Mozilla Nightly
Google Chrome

I don't understand why anyone would use Internet Explorer when there are so many more user friendly browsers available.

Further to that: I got an email notification with a link to "If you no longer want to receive notifications for this topic, please access the URL ...", which I went to. Clicking the link in the email gives me the CSRF error.

Lewis,

is there any chance you can get the problem to happen every time - something that we might be able to reproduce?

I created an account for the first time, have just been reading (some of) your emails before. I was able to give a thumbs up to your intrepid software engineer-volunteers. And here I'm commenting.

Browser: Chrome Version 24.0.1312.57
Mac OS 10.7.5

Fair warning, I'm totally into world domination through the medium of communication. Language is (I believe) the most powerful tool available to human beings. I realized a long time ago that most of the time other people say things better than me, and that most people periodically say brilliant things. Many of these brilliant sayings are unconnected, scattered out 'n about wherever hither and yon. Lots of the brilliant sayings are uttered in different camps, with the similarities and complementarities rarely explored. I fancy myself an action researcher, which really means I'm constantly learning. I learn by putting things people say in different places/spaces together in a single collection and recirculating this stuff back out to them and others to see if the juxtaposition makes sense. Which means I like to quote people's brilliant sayings and take screenshots, which is (technically) a kind of human subjects research. I prefer to think of it as art, but - being trained as an academic etc bladayah and - aspiring to the highest possible ethics means I'm supposed to give FAIR WARNING also known as giving you the chance to give or deny CONSENT on the basis of full information. More details at http://darkallyredesign.com/what-we-do/art-exception-clause/ (which is part of a platform under development).

Anyway, I think your style of self-presentation is an excellent model and I appreciate that you're able to bring lightheartedness to the challenges of this lifetime.

The first time I posted, and failed, I wrote the post, went to get a cup of tea, came back and submitted. That was the only thing I did differently. Maybe the CSRF token expired in that time.

I was able to create a new account and if you are reading this I was able to reply to this thread. Only weird thing was that I got two emails when creating a new account 30 minutes apart from each other.

Problems with watch and unwatch are a separate issue from post/reply/account creation. I actually thought they were sorted but perhaps not.

That message won't be ours; it would be something on your end, either your browser or a firewall, toolbar, or virus protection that you have installed on your own computer, which is trying to protect you from accidentally disclosing your password to others. It's safe to ignore that message and continue.
