I just realized tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving! Have a great day y'all!

What are the traditional foods? What are YOU having? Do the two questions relate at all?

Thank you, Pearl! For our family growing up, it was turkey and ham, mashed potatoes, dressing and cranberries. It is traditional to spend time with family or close friends. It can be celebrated on either the Sunday or the Monday.

As for us, I am cooking a turkey tomorrow with mashed potatoes and dressing for just my husband and me. I will also make a cauliflower substitute for mashed potato because I am on the keto diet. I usually buy two turkeys because you can always get a good deal on turkey during this time. I am looking forward to having enough meat to last for a week!

Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians!

I celebrated Thanksgiving today with some friends. She doesn't like turkey, so she cooked a wonderful roast beef with Yorkshire pudding muffins. We visited her little veggie garden and I collected some Swiss Chard seeds.

Because of my Son's schedule, we celebrated here on the homestead Friday evening with some young roosters as the guests of honour (they were delicious).

The weather so far this weekend has been gorgeous and warmer than typical for this time of year. We're expecting rain tomorrow, but I managed to do a little in the garden and some Himalayan blackberry clearing  yesterday and today.

It's been a warm fall. I covered one garden bed with some plastic leftover from another project to extend the season and keep it a little warmer at night. Today I took my friend a 1" by 6" cucumber picked from that protected garden and she was thrilled. She thought it was adorable and I know she'll enjoy eating it.

There is so much around me to be thankful for. I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving  days and feels they too can see much to be thankful about, even if there are many struggles also.

How did a whole year go by so fast???

I'm celebrating tonight with friends. The guests of honor are 2 small khaki drakes which my Muscovy moms raised for me. I'm also taking some Sparton Apple juice. My DiL* helped pick the apples yesterday, and a friend has a juicer and helped with that part last night. I just have to decant some into a jar. My gift to the hostess is a half dozen mini-eggs my pullets laid - they will make her smile!

*DiL = daughter in law

Hey, thanks folks!

It's an appropriate time for us -- the harvest is mostly in, and the gardens had a hard frost so we're clearing them out (except carrots and beets, which are heavily hilled and sweetening up). Much to be thankful for -- health and bountiful food.

Family are gathering here for turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, carrot turnip casserole, and pumpkin pie. After we recover from the obligatory turkey coma, board games are on the agenda. Or perhaps a strum on the old guitar.

Cheers!
