I have TWO questions, so I'm posting them here in the 'contact us' section.

1. I wrote a long post to the   Forum:  midwest usa       Indiana Permies where are you?  - and my Post disappeared! I was sure I logged in, but I had to go back and log in again, but WHY didn't the system take me back to where I could actually SUBMIT my post? I lost a LOT of effort in that text unless it is hung up in the system somewhere waiting to be SUNMITTED!

2. WHY don't we have a HELP Button in our MENUS? I checked all over for a way to contact someone about item #1. It would be extremely helpful to be able to find a person on the other end of the easily found HELP option that could get back to us and solve web site problems.

Good Evening, I split your post of into its own thread so you can get the right people looking at it.

I believe this is the post you are looking for? I can see it at the end of the thread. Are you on the last page? - https://permies.com/p/2291290

There is a 'report' function on each post that you can use to gain the attention of staff. It is primarily made up of volunteers so different people are on at different times.

1.  that sounds like something you need to take up with your browser developers.

2. i think you are thinking of sites that have a profit model.  This site is provided for free, so the people that manage it are unpaid.  If you click on "help" what do you think would happen if there are no paid people to provide the help you seek?

No matter what website,  if it's an important or long post,  I always compose it in a separate text editor.

That has the added bonus of being able to save it and go have a cuppa tea, then reread what I wrote to see if it is a good fit for that community.

My problem was that I thought I was still logged in, which I did once for posting something else. I tried posting, it demanded a 'sign on', which I went to and did, again, and was expecting that the system would take me back to my posting so that I could actually SUBMIT the post. The system did NOT do that. I searched and searched to find out how to get back to the several paragraphs that I had typed out. Never found that! Searched for a way to get to someone on Staff and found the 'contact us' which is why you got the TWO questions post.

Is there a way to get the system to automatically "log in" whenever I log onto permies?

Logged out issue - Cookie settings?

I think the system has only logged me out twice in ten years. Once for a server update,  once because a browser update decided I wasn't smart enough to make my own safe list.

I'm honestly not sure why it would of kicked you out if you didn't intentionally log out from the same device that you were previously logged into.

I haven't personally encountered that issue. I'll see if I can find someone who might have better insight.

It depends on your computing habits and tools. I am always logged into this website. The software running on the server works with the software running on my client machine to handle all of that transparently. I would expect any of the normal large-market browsers to behave that way.

I agree. Here's the link: http://stoves2.com
