My 7 year old has Molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH). His molars and incisors aren't pearly white but rather somewhat yellow-tan and brown. His dentist prescribed him an Rx strength flouride. I'd like to find something better.

It doesn't seem like it's known what causes MIH, maybe fevers in the first 1-2 yrs while those teeth are forming?

I've been reading from Dr. Weston Price www.westonaprice.org and I looked into Dr Gerard Judd's book Good Teeth from Birth to Death.

I wonder if any permies have had personal experience with re-mineralizing their teeth?

I started eating a local brand of honey-sweetened raw chocolate (Good Stuff Cacao), and the wrapper mentioned it has a substance helpful for tooth enamel. Whaaaaat? So I looked up some research:

The remineralization potential of cocoa (Theobroma cacao) bean extract to increase the enamel micro hardness

Conclusions: Cocoa extract is able to increase the microhardness of enamel so it can act as a substitution for fluorine remineralization.

Caries Preventive Effects of Theobromine Containing Toothpaste on Early Childhood Caries: Preliminary Results

Conclusion

Both toothpaste group showed a statistically significant amount of enamel remineralization. Since theobromine had the added benefits of increasing the salivary pH and decreasing the S.mutans levels, theobromine containing toothpastes can be considered effective agents in remineralizing white spot lesions and can be used in prevention of early enamel lesions.

Ask the Dentist: Chocolate--A Superfood for Your Teeth

A dentist recommending chocolate? Yes, that’s right, you read correctly. Recent studies emerging from Japan, England, and the U.S. support the fact that chocolate is effective at fighting cavities, plaque, and tooth decay in the mouth.

There's more, of course, but that's a good start. I am sure your 7 year old will be happy to eat good chocolate!

raw milk would probably be the best. Tons of what i believe can be found here. https://www.curetoothdecay.com/

i could say more but the website i linked to says it all. I have read the book twice.

I did start using a good bone support pill. I would open it up and pour it into my mouth. I would hold it in my mouth for 10 minutes or so while doing other things. sometimes i would lie down on one side and hold it on my left side of my mouth, than switch to the other side of my mouth. very powerful way to take supplements!!! about 10 minutes to enter the blood stream from oral absorption. While this website seems a little weak in information it atleast supports what i believe. https://www.bonchabio.com/blog/oral_absorption

I basically have followed most of the advice in the book. Switched to tooth powder.

I've dealt with nothing so extreme but I have white teeth speckled with brown divots which I was told was from well water with too much flouride in it as a kid. (I hated it as a young adult so when I got money from a car accident, I got porcelain veneers). I have healed cavities in my family over the years. Are his teeth sensitive? Only curious.

My best tips are:
limit sugar (refined and natural) and refined carbs- WAPF style
comfrey is amazing for teeth mineralization and safe (I'd probably make a tea with xyltiol and do a 10 minute swish 2x daily)
raw milk and other dairy products (yogurt, cheese, cream)
xylitol- there's a podcast episode of Dr. Peter McCullough's "The McCullough Report" from sometime in 2023 where he interviews a female dentist that explains xylitol's benefits that is pretty compelling (xylitol can come from corn or birch trees in case source is important to you)

One of my kids' teeth yellows a lot more and an orthodontist asked years ago if he was a swimmer. He was. He said he'd noticed a correlation. FWIW. He's a young adult now and hardly swims in a pool and his teeth aren't nearly as yellowed.

You could use radish as a source of compounds with fluorine.

Wow, I am so grateful to everyone who shared their knowledge with me! It's been a while since I've felt community. It seems that I've just put my toe in to this rabbit hole and have more work to do!
