Suggestions for modifying or reworking clothes

I bought these a while back and both pictures look different from the item I received.

Both of the item look flared though both of what I received are straight with no flare.

Any suggestion on how I can modify these to make them more comfortable?

I am not a fan of tight clothing as I wear mostly skirts with T-shirts.

I'd put a slit in the side seam, and add a long triangle of cloth to add the flare. Match color (although not the pattern) if you are going to wear it out, or whatever if they are house clothes.

How badly do you want the sleeves to be long? Shortening them could provide matching fabric that could be pieced to create that triangle.

I do this quite often with shirts or dresses that are cut too straight or even narrower at the hips than the bust - which is sooooo many things.

It's important to think about where you need the extra width when deciding what size and length to make the triangles (godets is the name I know for them). Is it the hem, to make the skirt fuller, or does the garment need more room through the hips, too?

I made the mistake with a shirt that was tight on the hips of starting the triangle insert at waist level. I ended up with a shirt that was flared at the hem but still not loose enough through the hips because the triangle was too narrow there to add enough extra width. For extra hip room, one either needs to add multiple triangles starting at the waist, which evenly spaced can look like a really good design feature; or one that starts quite a bit higher up. For shirts I often do a centre back godet that starts at the edge of the back yoke if it has one or at the base of the neck if it doesn't.

And if you need a bit of help setting in that triangle (godet, gore, etc), here’s a very helpful tutorial:

Thanks you. everyone.

I love Pearl`s suggest about the triangle and Jay`s suggestion to use the sleeves.

When I get ready to do this I will watch that video, thanks.
