I have worked hard to eliminate that word from my vocabulary.  I must be honest and say that it still pops into my mind every once in a while.  I think this may be part of my path to finding Peace.

I instead use "dislike".  And if you ever read a post of mine with really, really, really dislike something you know how I feel.

As the years go by however, I find fewer and fewer things/places/people that I "dislike".

It may turn out that I'm nearing the end of this path I've been on for so long.

As always, still seeking

Peace

I still have that push/pull into a negative mindset, especially when I feel like there is 'no time left' but there always seems to be more time after the fact.

I will have to give a what you have tried a shot. Sometimes old habits are hard to break!

This is a journey for sure, and it is one that I'm on. I aim to love God and other people. That's all.

One of my favorite teachers is Ram Dass, here's the episode that my spouse recommended to me this week: https://beherenownetwork.com/ram-dass-here-and-now-ep-255-touched-by-grace/

He discusses this topic really well in a way that I am unable. I hope you enjoy.

Peace

Raven started a whole thread about doing things for 100 days and what effect it will have.

Words have strong meaning, and there are whole areas of psychiatry about changing one's thoughts as Step 1 of changing behaviour. So I would say that there is evidence out there that if you can eliminate some words from your vocabulary, it may have a positive effect. In particular, things like focusing on things you *do* like, rather than "dislikes"?

Certainly "hate" seems very cut and dried with no options sort of a word. There are foods I "disliked" as a child, which I eventually developed a taste for, and then adored, and now I would miss terribly if I had to give it up (here's looking at you, Dark Chocolate!)  I think "hate" doesn't give wiggle room for change, in a world where everything changes - even if that change is as simple as a leaf blowing off a tree in a gust of wind.

And many times the word is used when really it's lack of understanding or ignorance in the 'not aware of' sense...shutting out the unknown by dismissal in order to feel safe from different views and lifestyles.

I try to always have a positive attitude even through vocabulary so those words do not exist, or at least when talking about people.

I may not `love` everyone, I may not be `friends` with everyone.

I try to think of everyone as my equal.

Food might be something else entirely so I don't want to lie ....

I try to drink a lot of water and that get boring ...
