I was responding to a post here:
https://permies.com/t/269492/positive-outcomes-USA-presidential-election

I think Chris Week said something along the lines of "if you are for no regulation then you can't be for less regulation".

I said that I wish it were so simple but the alternative would be that if I was for more regulation then I should be for absolute regulation.

I reviewed this thread and this interaction has completely disappeared. Where did it go? Why can I not find it in my search of the thread?

I noticed this, Josh, and I noticed that one or more of Christopher Week's posts are now missing as well.

Looks like a few posts have been removed from that thread for

https://permies.com/t/17422/tnk/permies-publishing-standards
https://permies.com/t/2296/tnk/nice
And
https://permies.com/t/7304/tnk/Leaving-room-peoples-ideas

It could be one of those posts.  It would take an hour or two to deep dive into that thread and I'm not eager to as I find that kind of topic boring.   I would rather read a thread about gardening.

Long winded way of saying, cider press is a tricky place.  And posts on permies that don't meed publishing standards tend to vanish.

This one might help too.

I'm guessing that a questionable post was removed and then any responding to it also.
so, yours was not  the issue but would not have made sense on it's own.   I guess?
I think I had a response there also..

I hadn't noticed that that had happened and am not sure I see why it happened but moderation is difficult in the 'cider press' and not done lightly.

EDIT: I just checked and that bit of conversation is there...the thread has two pages now.

Okay. I was under the impression that the cider press would be less tricky as far as being able to share a little more of our thoughts about more sensitive topics. Noted.

I don't know where I have said this before, so gonna try to recreate from memory ...

The site is really for stuff outside the cider press.  We can get people of all flavors talking about gardening, homesteading and permaculture.

Suppose you get a bunch of people from ireland talking, in the cider press, about the pros and cons of catholocism?  And then we have a few people on staff that have some strong thoughts also.   If you post "yay!" then all the people that agree with you will think you are wise, and your post is flawless.  People that don't agree with you will think that your post is mean (apple cores) and violates the publishing standards (deletion).

I stopped posting to the cider press years ago.  ***I*** was getting apple cores.  And I would much rather talk about permaculture.

The cider press has turned out to be one of the smartest things we have ever done.

BUT!

(remind me how y'all feel about big butts?)

...  if you are gonna play in the cider press, you should expect to lose apples and have your stuff deleted.

Bad metaphor time: If regular permies.com forums are the Marketplace of Ideas, then the cider press is the Casino of Reckons. You take your chances but remember that the house always wins. Play nice but don't wager more than you can afford to lose. Thank you to Paul and staff for keeping an eye on the tables.

First - is it buts or butts??? not sure.
Second - I like all buts, big, large, medium, small, mostly I like round ones with some sass, ( that can wait for another time and place ).
Third  -  I don't at all mind having my posts deleted, that provides proof that I hit someone's nerve.   As for the apple cores, as I never really understood the
apple thingy, I do not mind them either.

Overall I like the Press, just please understand I do not reply to be mean, I'm mostly trying to make fun!! (in a nice way)

Peace

More than a few times, people have lost more apples than they had at the Cider Press roulette table.

In comparison, as far as I can remember, this recent episode didn't result in any cores. Sorta a non-event, especially when  compared to the Great Core-Bonanza of 2021-04-01.

That sounds like an interesting day.

I would say that, in my opinion, I don't think we can compartmentalize ourselves and answer questions objectively, even about plants. My worldview or philosophical/moral foundation or whatever you want to call it informs everything I do/think/say.

Evidence of this could be the reason for the myriad of answers you get when you ask a question, sometimes. I think there is a level of like-mindedness here and that helps.

Preferably, I have someone local to answer my questions, that I know personally. If not, I try to get a local referral or someone to call. If not, I ask here or comment here. It is in that order because it would start with folks that I have a good idea about their worldview.

Reading the cider press and interacting with it and also reading anyone's books or any post that has a few personal details helps inform me of from what basis they are working. In my opinion, I don't think you can ever be 100% sure about anyone but yourself (maybe not even that), but you can get a good idea from what basis others are coming from. This in turn helps me to understand why they may answer a question a certain way or comment a certain way.

I say all that to say, my view would be that I like to understand who you all are as whole people, as much as possible in an online format. I use your posts (even the CP) and the books to help me with that. This was also the reason for my original post here. I may have been mistaken about the deletion but I was not offended, in any way, by any comments made in the thread. I also did not understand the nature of the CP and while I am still a little confused about it, I am glad it is part of the forum, and I understand it a little more than I did.

I will add this reminder to the information here: permies moderators are volunteers (who joined because of the gardening, not the moderating) who live all over the world, come from all sorts of walks of life, believe in all sorts of religions - or none, come from all economic brackets, have worky jobs - or are retired - or homestead, speak English - or multiple languages, have lived in many different places - or never lived further than 50 km from where they live now, they may be having a good week - or not, etc.

You only need to annoy or frustrate 1 of that divergent bunch to wind up with a core or a deleted post in the Cider Press. And if you just happened to quote the wrong post, you may have done nothing but that, to have it deleted as Judith mentioned.

The one thing all the moderators have in common is that they think Permies is awesome and wonderful and deserves protecting. I have occasionally strayed onto other platforms and the lack of civility usually pushes me right back here, where everyone agreed when they sign up to Be Nice!

Help us all to keep it that way - if you see spam or nastiness, please hit the !Report button and staff will check it out. Please do *not* reply to it, as that just makes the whole process messier.
