ptfe-free pipe sealants, pipe dope. How to diy or product recommendations

Howdy. Need to change out a sink and started trying to find ways of sealing pipe threads not using all the PTFE products that have taken over that application. No luck finding anything on youtube thus far but the search algo's are what they are now. Anyone made pipe dope from scratch or recommend a product for water pipes that's free of forever chemicals and such? I also saw toothpaste and hair used in a recent Project Kamp video. thanks in advance!

Just curious, what kind of pipe are you using?

Recommendation make determine pipe used.

i use the grey colouredpaste they sell at hardware store in small tubs ---linseed oil based ---safe for drinking water ---and the "hair" i use is hemp or flax soft rope /twine they sell ---its the old standby for all coarse threaded joins ---beats the use of those tapes

Indian Head Shellac was in use long before the PTFE sealants came on the scene.
