Looking for a place to learn permaculture, natural building, homesteading, carpentry etc I don't have formal construction experience, but I have done many small projects here and there from decks to small sheds in my 20's so I can use most hand and power tools, measure, cut, drill/hammer etc.

I have a college degree in engineering, worked in my field for a few years, did some property management work for less than a year, and have been working on farms and homesteads since February. No job too big or small but I need to be learning construction or other useful skills. I can provide many work references. I have a car, drivers license, clean record and can do a background check.

Would need a place to stay and some work trade agreement. Currently in the New England area. Ready to move for the right opportunity.

Have you looked at the Wheaton Labs Bootcamp Program?

It is out in Montana but you could learn a lot hands-on while living the Permie lifestyle.

Here is a thread from current bootcamp member Esteban so you might get an idea of what goes on from day to day.

I second the suggestion for Wheaton Labs.

Lots of learning happening there!

How active are things in the winter though?

There are folks onsight year round doing projects. I don't think you will have to worry about not having something to learn. It would be prime time to utilize the rocket mass heaters to keep warm there.

here is our thread about what the bootcamp works on in winter

https://permies.com/t/149839/bootcamp-winter

Stephen moved the sawmill and he has a plan for a more permanent installation.  My guess is that it will be fired up this week.

We have created a lot of winter gardens with the idea that we will harvest and eat stuff through the winter.

Of course, a lot of people want to try a few days in every cabin to see what that rocket mass heater is like.

I think this winter will have a hard push on building junk pole fence at basecamp.

Hello Zack!

You can learn a lot at Wheaton Labs in Montana.  I have visited there many times.  It is an excellent place learn natural building and round wood timber framing.  They grow much of their own food in the hugelkultur gardens.   There are many beautiful cabins, each with a rocket mass heater or other clean wood heat.

If you join the bootcamp for a month, you can take on an acre of raw land to grow a garden of your own, build a cabin, raise livestock or bring to life your permaculture dreams.

Wheaton Labs is a great place to winter.   Lots of brisk sunny days make outdoor chores fun.
