Is there a way to get a written but not submitted post back? Is this a pressing need or am I just a nimrod for closing the tab before I was done?

I was building a post to the Cooking with Dry Beans and Peas thread in the cooking |frugality |beans section of the site when I closed the wrong tab and poof it was gone. Sigh. I doubt there is a way to resurrect it, but is it a feature you think you might need? Even a violator saying "Are you sure?" before sending the data off into the twilosphere would be helpful for us with fat fingers and flying mouse moves.

Thanks!

I don't think we can get it back for you Barbara, it sounds like your browser swallowed it. Sometimes you can get posts back by looking at your browser history - if you just closed the tab it may still remember if you didn't close the session completely.

Sometimes hitting the back button if you are still on that page might bring it back ...

That used to happen to me a lot, I write a really long post and then poof it is gone ...

My solution to a lost post was to write the post in something like word, then copy and paste to the forum.

I often do what Anne mentions if it's a long post and sometimes at least highlight and 'copy' since sometimes my post times out and won't send,

and, I can often find the reply in my tabs on this phone if I wander too far away looking for something else...unless, of course, I've cleared tabs.

checking history is a good idea as clearing tabs shouldn't clear history? or does it?

Well Barbera;
All I can say, is welcome to the oh shit club!
I can't tell you how many times I have done that!
And as a one-finger typist, it REALLY sucks!

I usually close my computer in disgust and walk away.

Yep just typed a long reply. Tried to post it. Dumb page came up telling me I'm basically dumb for taking too long. hit back button and all gone. Turning off computer and walking away now.

You are not alone Les Frijo. I think we've all been there.  But I will take Anne's advice and create/edit in Word, then copy it to Permies to post.

The 1990s taught me to compose long replies in notepad or other simple text editor. Not a word processor like word or works that use special characters that don't always transfer well.

It has the extra advantage that I dont have to reply the same day.  Nothing in a forum is as urgent as real life and long posts often benifit from the gift of time.

Now seems like a good time to confess that I have learned and relearned this lesson far too many times...
