What is this called where they make tiny worlds?

There is something magical about this.  So much more detail than a doll house.

Examples

A tiny artist studio with a lovely skylight.

Often they use recycled material like this one uses packaging from a cellphone for the base and often we see egg cartans for texture.

And here we have a little fantasy house from a toilet roll

And a coffee shop of dreams inside an old plastic jug.

I bet a lot of these materials could be replaced with more upcycling like paperclay.

I've seen techniques like this for model railways and DnD terrain. In painting, we might make maquette to help with realism.  But they all have a purpose.   This seems to be making a tiny world for the joy of it.  Nothing beyond that.

I guess I'm sort of thinking: if they can make a whole world from trash and stuff, maybe I can make my world better by making the things that don't exist yet?  Maybe.

Like making a model of the garden or house you wish you had?

I've seen pretty cool examples of box frame art - like you're looking into a miniature world. They use tricks with perspecitive to make the window look bigger and deeper than it is. The examples you've found look more like railway modelling in a more intensive way.

I'm thinking about a new battle cry. Maybe "Not in the face! Not in the face!" Any thoughts tiny ad?
