Sawmill efficiency idea:  How about if you do 4" worth of vertical cuts (back, forth, back, forth, back, forth, etc) and then undercut all the boards with one horizontal slice?  I'm guessing you could do 6 or so boards worth of vertical cuts for every one horizontal cut.  If I remember how those sawmills work that is...

Blade cuts horizontal going forward and vertical pulling it back, otherwise that would be a good idea.  Also the 3/8 horizontal cut takes about as much time as not cutting anything.

Saw blade can cut 4 inches max, blade has a 1/8 kerf - so 2x3/8 boards per inch.

We usually get about 3 courses per log. Works out to about 60 panels per log, give or take a few wacky boards due to overheating or a dull blade.

It's actually running about as efficient as it can sense fixing it back in November or December.

Cool beans.  When I used one of those it didn't seem to matter which way you moved it through the log but maybe that one had more power.  Keep on keeping on!

Run it forward vertically and it'll run you... Blade spins counter clockwise and turns into a wheel.   Ask me how I know ;). Kinda looks like a Calvin and Hobbs cartoon in my imagination.

Wow, you guys are doing some amazing things with those delightful old buckets of bolts!  How many flat tires did the trailer have?
