dailyish email settings

It used to be that once you were set up for the dailyish email, your only option was to unsubscribe. So if people started off checking the box for "missoula" and later decided that they didn't want missoula stuff, there was no way to change that. Even though the bottom of every email says "To unsubscribe or change subscriber options visit:". That was pointed out to me just a few months ago and I was surprised!

The awesome thing is that Adrien jumped right on it. He made it so that the bottom of every email there were two links. One for unsubscribe (the one we cannot change) and one for fiddling with the settings. His stuff starts here: http://richsoil.com/email-preferences.php

I think Adrien did an excellent job of making this work. The aweber stuff turns out to be pretty klunky and adrien worked through the maze to get this to work. We are currently considering some alternatives to aweber - but that's a different story for a different day.



Today I got an email from probodywork@_______.com (I am hiding the domain name for the privacy of this person) with the subject line of "reported your page for spam and to ICANN and..."

UNSUBSCRIBE link does NOT work!

requires subscription to AT LEAST ONE?

What THE fuck???

Unsubscribe the above email NOW goddamnit!!

My guess is that between the link that says "To change your subscription options visit:" or the link that says "To unsubscribe or change subscriber options visit:" he selected the first link.


Could somebody please be so kind as to check the first link and see if we have a way to unsubscribe there? I'm guessing that we don't because that was never the intent of that page. And maybe I should ask adrien to have a look into that.


Next, what is this stuff about reporting to icann?


And finally, my opinion of "pro body work" seems to have dropped a bit.

Eeek, the guy seems to be right.

I tried unchecking all the boxes and got a "must check at least one list" error message.

Couldn't see any option anywhere along the line to unsubscribe completely.

oh crap.... it just worked for me. I was only subscribed to the daily email though.... Edit to add...only the "permaculture stuff" box was checked.

i believe this refers to the law that requires emails to have a 1 click unsubscribe button.
no doubt, if you were a hardcore spammer, ICANN may come after you - but your emails are well within the law.
