OPPS...I was just looking at page 1... I can see that you have worked the issue out...please pardon the unnecessary advice.
If you go through them all you will find there is a new camera introduced. It senses the orientation of the camera so the picture is already right way with no fixing. (funny thing I got the same one from my wife at about the same time) This camera also tethers nicely to computers with the sw provided or Entangle (linux) which allows complete control of the camera from the computer which my son has used to try out "stop motion animation".... where the camera is steady but the "set" moves
With regard to rotating pictures. I have used different programs to do this... just changing the order of the numbers for height and width works for some programs but fails for many browsers. In the end I have been using GIMP which complains about pictures rotated as above and asks which way you want it. I also use gimp to downgrade the resolution so that it doesn't take so long to upload/download for people.
Note: GIMP stands for Gnu Image Manipulation Program. It was originally developed on Linux (the Gnu kinda gives that away) but there are versions for OSX and windows these days too. The Fork used in the movie industry for retouching frames is now called cinepaint available for BSD, Linux and OSx.... sorry the Hollywood guys don't use windows I guess.
