getting a 20% kickback on my rocket oven kickstarter

On monday (or so) I plan on launching my rocket oven kickstarter.  I plan on doing the same thing I did during the last two kickstarters, give people who ask a special link that kickstarter tracks.  And then pay out kickbacks.  Last year these links brought in over $20,000.   So I paid out over $4000 in kickbacks.

Some people shared this link:

  - on their own mailing list
  - on their own web site or blog
  - on their facbook page
  - on a few dozen facebook groups
  - one guy actually paid for facebook advertising (and got triple money back)
  - on mailing lists with lots of people
  - on twitter
  - via emails to a bunch of people they know
 
I suppose there are a thousand places all over the internet to share a link like this that I have never heard of.   I even kinda wonder if a person could buy adwords ads and get more back - but that is something I really don't understand.  

While there were heaps of peeps that dozens of people, about half sold just one and I felt a bit like "I did that extra work so you could give yourself a 20% discount?"  So this year I'm gonna make a slight change:  20% kickback for those that rack up at least 2 pledges.  So if one other person chips in, then, yeah, you get a 20% discount.  

Once the kickstarter is running, I will send each of you an email (using your permies.com email address) with the code.  So for now, please reply to this thread to express your interest and I will send you the code when the kickstarter is officially running.

Maybe you should post a comment on the youtube review of 6 backyard pizza ovens.  Saying you can a make quality pizza oven with a lower ecological impact and less cost than the rockbox or whatever it was called.  It might look spammy to have a bunch of people commenting with a link to a kickstarter.

I don't know the rules about putting links on youtube, anyone know?  if you can't put a link, then saying "there's a video coming out soon from Wheaton Labs" would give people enough to web search.

Whenever I see a link like that, I INSTANTLY think it's a spam link and will take me to a place that will give my computer lots of viruses and maleware. I do not click those links, ever. And, if I remember what the link was, and see it somewhere else (even if it's in context and doesn't look spammy) I still assume it's spam. That kind of post is like a blackmark upon a website for me, and is very much negative publicity. Maybe I'm the only one, though...

I handed out a bunch of kickback codes yesterday.   I can see several people tested their codes.   And I can see a few of you are sharing them and getting backers!  Thanks!  

Some people are simply posting to a bunch of facebook groups.   Jocelyn told me that she saw the kickstarter on instagram this morning (I've never been on instagram).  I helped with somebody's kickstarter in the past and I just saw an "update" on that kickstarter announcing this one (complete with kickback link).   I saw one blogger make a quickie blog post.   One person told me that they just emailed it to a dozen buddies.  

Anybody have any advice for those holding kickback codes?

I have an experiment I would like to do if you are up for it Paul. I would like to test the effectiveness of links posted in a user's signature here on permies. If you send me a link for the kickstarter I will update my signature to only be about your kickstarter. I'm hoping that would then let us know how effective signature links are since we could track the results. Does that work for you? I just thought about this idea this morning and I thought it could be an interesting experiment. I will write some poetry to go along with the link.

There is 4.5 days left in this kickstarter.   In my past kickstarters, the last three days paid the most, so if folks are thinking of spreading the word, now is a good time!
