where to Pee?

Hi,

so i've got a problem on my property, and it is where to pee.

According to permaculture zoning, it seems that i pee in majority in zone 1, but for now this zone has no fruiting trees or privacy w.r.t. neighbors and road (and my zone two is too steep to worth the trip).

So, what about you, how do you have designed your P-system ?

For the long term, i will have fruiting trees in zone 1 (also known as most-deer-proof-zone-i-hope zone), so i think to do my maths to allocate a P-budget for my annual pees. For example, according to Martin Crawford, a N² demanding tree like walnut requires 8g N²/square meter canopy, so for a mature walnut of 20m diameter that means 60 pees (or 40 days pee allocated). So trees in zone 1 may not manage to recycle all my N²...
I should include privacy in design too.

For short time, i think of a patch of comfrey whose cuts can be dispatched as i want.

And what to do in winter to minimize N² loses ? Pee on evergreen shrubs/trees ?

hubby is a night person, I"m a day person..so I ask my hubby to pee on my fruit trees and other garden at night..but he doesn't..

being a gal and having neighbors and not much privacy i don't do it myself..

and don't really like to pee in a jar..you know..

am planning on putting a compost bucket toilet in the woodshed and using the compost from that around the base of the fruit trees..?

Bear in mind that there is already Nitrogen in some form in the soil, so you don't want to pee quite that much (you will overload the nitrogen on that tree).

This really depends on the plants you've got in your garden, and the nitrogen levels in your soil. As my permaculture guru so wisely pointed out, don't pee on your lettuce "because eww." This would be a very good time to run soil tests to check for nitrogen levels in your soil if you haven't done so already, that can be a really good indicator of where peeing is appropriate. (not in regards to neighbors)

And I wonder if this making me silly too... adults aren't supposed to talk about where we pee, are we?

Yes we are supposed to talk about it.  And to prove how 'unsilly' we are about our nitrogen resource there is a whole thread on permies about pee and how to use it. 

And just think about the money we are saving, and the positive impact on the environment with less packaging, production, transportation, fertilizer run off - and on and on.

I prefer a widemouth plastic jug (easier for the guys I admit..) - put them somewhere convenient but out of the way, and always with a lid.  When it's time to empty it, choose a few needy spots, or go for the compost pile.
I usually give the jug a quick rinse every 2-3 uses, and this is pretty convenient sine many uses are 1:1 mix with water.  Since urine is sterile, it's not hard to keep it from smelling: keep it inside the bottle and keep the cap on.

Anybody want to chime in on best solution for the girls?

Perhaps something like an ice cream bucket and a small funnel to transfer the contents to an empty gallon milk jug which can be capped.  Then use (some of?) the water from washing the dishes to rinse the bucket and funnel, just add it to the jug.

Some hand soaps can be very hard on plants but I've never seen any ill effects from using dish wash water on plants.

ahem. I have a stainless steel mixing bowl that fits handily in my toilet. Lift up the seat, put it in, seat back down, there you go. Contents pour into the jar easily with no need for funnel. Jar fits into pocket of apron for sneaking out to the garden and adding to the watering can. Easy pee-sy.

For men, straight on the compost heap or in the mulch around a convenient tree. 

For us women, there's a pink bucket by the compost heap, which can be emptied immediately after use.  For indoor use, I have a similar sized lidded bucket next to the loo.
