This Badge Bit (BB) is part of the PEP Curiculum. Completing this BB is part of getting the sand badge in Natural Medicine.

For this BB you will create a salve from mullein leaf.

The Nerdy Farm Wife shares how to make mullein leaf salve including three recipes for different uses.

Minimum requirements:
- Make a mullein leaf salve
- Label finished salve

To document completion of the BB, provide proof of the following as pictures or a video (<2 minutes):
- a picture of your mullein leaf, freshly harvested
- a picture of the mullein leaf in the oil with a description of what oil and other ingredients you used
- a picture of your completed salve in its permanent, labeled container/jar

If you prefer video, here is one on how to make a comfrey salve.

Here is my submission for the Natural Medicine Aspect - Sand for Straw - Make a Mullein Leaf Salve BB.

I harvested Mullein Leaf at Wheaton Labs during the PTJ 2021.  I heated organic extra virgin olive oil and fresh mullein leaves in the easy bake oven (coffin) to make the infused oil.  I then heated 4 ounces of mullein leaf oil and 85 grams of organic beeswax until they melted together and transferred to a storage jar.  I initially combined 4 ounces of oil with 65 grams of beeswax but that was too soft so I reheated the mixture and added more wax.  Now it is perfect (or at least more to my liking).  I also purchased some salve tins (like what we used during the PTJ) but they have not arrived yet so I'm using an old spice jar.

To document the completion of the BB, I have provided the following:
- a picture of your mullein leaf, freshly harvested
- a picture of the mullein leaf in the oil with a description of what oil and other ingredients you used
- a picture of your completed salve in its permanent, labeled jar
