Sep Holzer style Root Cellar.

Here the wall logs are going in.

You can see they are carefully setting each log end on a bed of gravel and back filling with more gravel to keep everything dry and tight.

Here is Mike Haasl working on the log stair case!

Each step is shaped and pined to the rails with wooden pins.  Here you can still see the pins sticking out.

The steps in place and pins cut flush.  Looking good!

This is the moon gate in progress.

That red circle is a form that the rocks are stacked around.  When the circle is complete and can bear its own weight the form is removed.

Beau brought these mycelium blocks to use for insulation in the pump house at Wheaton labs.

They are an oyster mushroom and they started fruiting!

I think these ones were on the table for pizza night or maybe taco Tuesday.   So much great food!

Hello  Jules!

Yes!  Opalyn did so many things this year!
She was just starting the mattress as I was leaving so I did not get to see it.

She made a pillow that smelled gently of organic coffee!   I would love to sleep with a pillow like that!

She fixed a hand woven rug, and wove new rugs on a loom she made herself.

It was great to learn how easy this stuff can be.  I will try to find some pictures!

A movie would be better...

I hope they do this kickstarter so I can share all these things!

How lovely! A coffee pillow - I'm not sure if that would have the opposite effect on sleeping though ;) But I think it sounds delightful!

Also, the rug weaving/loom sounds amazing, that's something I'd love to learn about.  I hope this is included in the new Kickstarter movie :)

The pillow is absolutely delightful.
Take it from a deep-sleeping non coffee drinker who had the honor of being the first to use it - out like a light, every night.

The pillow is actually made with the chaff (basically, the husk), which smells decidedly different from the beans. Resting your head on it is like being embraced by every good outdoor experience you ever had, but with the luxury of comfort on top of that.
Of all the many things as Opalyn is great at creating, this one is my actual favorite.

How do we get more people to click on "notify me on launch"?

I know it is a great way to get kickstarters attention.

When lots of people have clicked on "notify me on launch" in the past, kickstarter has bumped our project and shown it to more people.

Any ideas about how to get this to happen this time?

One of the great things about being out on a big property like Wheaton Labs, is getting to see wildlife.

Even though we are being loud and busy with our summer events,  most of the land is quiet and full of animals.

Looks like these deer were making some slip clay.

To see the current rewards, video, story and get a good idea of what the kickstarter page will look like

At the top of the page is a "notify me on launch" button.

Also, please post your suggestions about the page in this thread rather than on kickstarter.

The kickstarter page will officially appear here when we launch.   For now, this page does a lovely job of offering the "notify me on launch" button, plus showing you how many people have clicked on that button so far.

I am gearing up to send out a monthlyish later today.  here is what I have written so far

The reason for freaky effort to the kickstarter earlybird stuff

Are there millions of people visiting the kickstarter website each day?  We have a way to thrust permaculture and low tech in front of them, just for a moment.

The top metric kickstarter uses to determine which projects get plastered all over their site is "popularity" which is measured by the number of backers. And if we can get 1000 backers in the first 3 hours, then the kickstarter algorithm treats that a bit like 8000 backers in the first 24 hours - so we get bumped to the top!

A little help?

We start this kickstarter tuesday at 2pm (mountain time). This will be the link for the kickstarter when it starts. If you follow the link now, you can select "notify me on launch" which will send you an email when the kickstarter starts (as opposed to waiting for this email which takes our servers 12 hours to send out).

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/paulwheaton/low-tech-0?ref=8dsasn

The $1 level is heavily loaded for just this reason.

- a new, hour long movie about three rocket mass heater builds
- the two hour movie of 65 low tech things at wheaton labs
- log beehive plans
- a new, convenient gob of 40 podcasts
- the kickstarter backer icon, on permies, next to your name
- cool public thanks
- access the the secret inner circle forum on permies

And for that same $1 put into the kickstarter in the first few hours, you get the earlybird stuff:

- Mycoinsulation Webinar: “Fungal Mycellium as Insulation” by Beau Davidson
- eBook "How to Use Leftover Whey" by Kate Downham
- eBook "Remodel Green: Make Your House Serve Your Life" by Kelly Hart
- eMag Living Woods Magazine, Issue #5
- eBook "Natural Bath Bombs" by Jan Berry
- 3D plans for the “Cottage Style Sauna Rocket Heater” by Andres Bernal
- Presentation "Building a Profitable Permaculture Business" by Jack  Spirko
- eMag Tiny House Magazine, Issue #127
- eBook "Grow Fruit Trees Fast" by Susan Polzner
- eMag The Stockman Grass Farmer, May 2022
- eBook chapter from "The Regenerative Landscaper" by Erik Ohlsen
- Herbal Adaptogens Zine by Katie Williamson
- eBook chapter from "Edible Landscaping with a Permaculture Twist" by Michael Judd
- eMag Acres USA, issue May 2023

My psychotic obsession to transform the world into a permaculture world might be unreasonable. Yet I gotta ask for your help anyways!
