Hey,

On-again-off-again Pod-person here.  A few weeks ago I had the PEP Podcast on in the background while doing some renovation work, and Mike and Paul were talking about enlisting some help fleshing out the PEP program - something along the lines of leg-work in making the BB posts, hopping onto some calls, etc.  I'd love to jump into that, if there is still a need.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Mike and I have been creating a LOT of new badges.   And a lot of these need BB pages to be created.

https://permies.com/t/98467/create-BB-wiki-pages-PEP

Another thing that I think needs a lot of development is the PEA program:

https://permies.com/t/129955/PEA-Permaculture-Experience-Apartment-dwellers

Mike and I were meeting three times per week on zoom, to hammer out badges.   And then ashley started to join some of our meetings.  If another person got pretty savvy at cranking this stuff out, I kinda wonder if there could be even more meetings, with and without me and or mike.   Just to improve the overall forward velocity of this project.

Hey Paul,

I've definitely fallen off the wagon without Mike around.

Beau,

It would be nice to have a buddy to keep me accountable for making BB pages and someone to bounce ideas off of. Would that be of interest to you?

Ok, I'm back.  Now get back to work you lazy bums!!!

Just kidding, I was on vacation so I guess I was slacking a bit as well.

So I see that I have 76 emails about permies threads that have been updated since I left.  I'll start working through the PEP ones first but if a new one was created (like a new BB page) I won't have a notification for it and it will be buried in the forum where I may not see it.

So, Ashley, could you post a link to any of the new BBs you've done that haven't gotten added to their parent page and I can start working through them?  If there aren't any, that's ok, it means I'm not as far behind.

Beau, thanks for joining the team!  Your help is needed in any way that you feel best about providing it.  Some possible activities would be:
  • Creating BB pages for badge bits that haven't been fleshed out yet
  • Participating on calls with Me/Paul/Ashley to flesh out badges that aren't done through to the Iron level yet
  • Creating the PEA program

  • Thanks and if anyone else wants to join the team, you're hired!

I’d love to jump in. Since my original post, we’ve been in the middle of a major tree harvest, and now I’ll be busy the next couple weeks getting several hundred new trees in the ground. Let me get that wrapped up, regroup, and jump in at that point.

I think my only limitation (aside from time while establishing a homestead) is our relatively poor internet. Usually no problem handling text over web. Some days even that is sluggish. Video and voip works maybe 30% of the time, but the good ol’ fashion phone line is pretty reliable.

So, how does it work? Going over BB’s to do via periodic check-ins, and developing, writing, and posting individually after that? Or is there semi-developed BB content just waiting to be input and posted?

Also, not directly pertinent here, but I am an audio engineer by trade. Should any audio or general a/v or event needs surface, I could potentially jump in there.

For everyone that is interested in helping develop BB pages for the PEP program, I'm thinking of having a single zoom call (and teleconference) to bring anyone up to speed, look at how to create a BB, scheme on ways to complete a bunch of them in the next month and basically organize a small movement.

Beau mentions that his internet is slow. With Zoom calls you can call in on a phone.  I'd be sharing my screen to show where things are but hopefully the visual part wouldn't be critical.

So for everyone who's interested, when would be a good time for a call?  I'm thinking either an evening this week or this coming Sat or Sun.

For those who are unfamiliar with making BBs, you are basically taking a short sentence in a particular badge (say Metalworking) where it says "make a gate".  You then create a thread for "make a gate" that has a few pictures or youtube links to people making gates.  You come up with some minimum requirements and the documentation requirements and you're all done.  Then I (or Paul or someone else) will review it, change anything that needs changing, and link it to the badge.  So it's a low risk of failure since I'll be checking and tweaking your work.  After doing a few for things you're familiar with, you'll see that you can create them for nearly any topic without much worry.

Let's form a team and kick some booty!

Hell yeah, we can do rad nicknames!

I've always thought people who either work on PEP or who are completing BBs could be called Peppers.  But that's just a silly side note.

Hopefully Beau and a few others chime in soon.  We'll pick a time in a day or so based on any other conflicts.

    Yay team!

So I could jump on a call tonight at 6 central (5 mountain time), or Wednesday at 6 central (5 mountain time), or flexibly most times Tuesday and Thursday. This weekend is also possible.

Do we pick out our own names, or are they assigned by the group once we attain quorum?

Sweet, let's plan for 6pm Central time on Wednesday.  If anyone wants to join in and that time doesn't work for them, we could pick a new one but we'll go with that for now.  I'll post a Zoom link here for the call a few minutes before we start.

    Go Peppers!!!

So, is the call today, and if it’s at 6:00pm central time, is that the same as Montana time?

I’m in Pacific standard time... it’s a little after 3pm here right now.

Perhaps we can discuss this during bb20. I’m interested in helping out with BB. Nicole and I collaborated on the community-brand a piece of equipment bb page.

Thanks for the offer N.Y.!  I passed it along to the guy working on PEA to see if he's at a position to need help.
