support thread for people trying to download freebies from dailyish email

Ditto, I have a 16.5MB file that none of my .pdf readers think is a .pdf...

I also was having trouble downloading the pdf last night at around 9 or 10pm CST. I tried to download the pdf a few times (<6), and after coming up with the server busy error message some times, I was able to successfully download two corrupted pdfs. I just tried again (by following the directions given in the email, i.e. going to http://richsoil.com/rmh-manual.php and entering my email address) at 4:45am CST and was able to download an uncorrupted pdf successfully. I'm guessing that the server was just overloaded and not handling all the requests properly. People who are having trouble may wish to try again, potentially at a potentially less popular time (such as the middle of the night or early in the morning, maybe?). Good luck, everybody!

P.S. Cassie, you may wish to consider including a link to this thread in future dailyish emails that have candy for the grabbing. This way people will already know about this thread if they have problems and not email you directly. I had checked the forums for a thread with this topic, but I didn't think to check the "tinkering with this site" forum. Anyway, thanks for all that you do! I'm looking forward to reading the pdf!

Same problem with the RMH Manual, as of March 26th, 6:45 AM EDT.

My Linux system's PDF viewer reports that the PDF file is damaged and can not be opened.

Ok, last night I only got an error message. This morning I thought all was good ... pdf slowly downloaded all good until you open and then I get message pdf failed to load... This is the RMH manual, Will keep trying.

Just tried again and used the link that matt goto had on his message. First thing different was the size of the download was much smaller, went thru very quickly AND Worked perfectly!! Thank you all for this wonderfull freebie !

Same problem after dozens of downloads. The file fails to open.

Perhaps it would help if large PDF files like this were archived into zip files, before being offered up for download?

OK, finally got it downloaded uncorrupted, and it displays correctly. FWIW, the file size reported by my system is 17.3MB (17341647 bytes).

Did you do anything different to get it to work? or did you just keep trying?

Not sure why it would make any difference, but on the last (and successful download attempt) I renamed the file.

I.e. the download manager in FireFox allows one to chose the destination (desktop in my case) and "save as", so I changed the file name to save as RMHmanual, the complete filename then being RMHmanual.pdf

1287 kb is what the download was that worked, went thru in less than a minute. I THINK that the unsuccessful downloads were 15.1 MB and took well over 30 minutes to download ... and then you couldn't open them! Its here now and its everything I hoped for thank you again !

I have also downloaded twice, corrupted both times, on an HP Windows 7 laptop with latest Firefox.

I've got it now too...it loaded in a minute or so and opened immediately. I went back to the link in the email (that hadn't worked an hour or so ago) http://richsoil.com/rmh-manual.php instead of the link in an above post http://richsoil.com/manual-download.php where I entered my email address first.

Now that I have looked more thoroughly at what downloaded, I see it is one I already have...the 12 page plans for

The downloaded file I received is Chapter 4 from "Rocket Mass Heater Builder's Guide", entitled "Operation and Maintenance". It's a 32 page PDF. Very nicely done, I might add:)

After looking, I received the same 12 page annex file as judith. I'll keep trying.

Weird, I just tried again from the daily-ish email link and got the same plans again as before, not the "Rocket Mass Heater Builder's Guide".

Have tried 6 times to download the rocket mass heater manual. 5 times the d/l has timed out the one time it successfully downloaded the file was corrupt. Have tried two different pc's one at home one at work.

Still trying, discovered the correct address to get the file "Rocket Mass Heater Owner's Manual" if it says this and the file size is large (mine is 16.5 MB ) then I guess just keep trying till you receive an uncorrupted file . When it said "Rocket mass heater plans" file size is small and it downloads fast. You will have the 12 page plans for E&E 6" annex build.

File name on the download has now changed. It's the same file that was made available back in January RocketMassHeater-Annex6-letter.pdf

For those of you having confusions with getting the rocket mass heater annex plans, you need to clear the cookies for that page and start again. I am waiting on adrien to try to help me fix this, but in the meantime, clear your cookies and try again.

To clear your cookies,

1. right click anywhere on the page.
2. choose inspect element.
3. click the resources tab
4. click the tiny arrow next to Cookies
5. right click on richsoil.com and click clear
6. do not click refresh. type in richsoil.com/rmh-manual.php in your browser bar and hit enter
7. enter your email address and click submit (you will be taken to the rocket mass heater manual download link)

I can't help but just think it has something to do with so many people trying to download at the same time because when I tested it before I sent out the dailyish, everything worked fine and it downloaded in like 1 minute. I am again waiting to see what adrien says in regards to this. He is more techy than me.

I highly recommend waiting a few hours or even a day to try again. Since this has been such an issue we can extend the time it will be available by a few days.

The first two steps worked, but I don't seem to have a resources tab. Is it different on firefox than whatever browser version you are using?

I downloaded the rocket mass heater pdf twice. The first one had a problem and I couldn't read it. The second try was fine, readable with no hitch.

Ok. I downloaded again, and the file works now! Part of it was, I think, not trying to download at peak times.

I'm having the exact same experience as JPO above. After numerous attempts at rush hour, I waited until 11PM, files finally download, but are unusable, error message says they are corrupted. HELP PLEASE

i've downloaded the file for the RMH manual 3 times now over the course of the last couple days and each time i've gotten the same error message telling me the file is un-openable, i didn't note the exact wordage but that's the jist of it that it won't open, ...it seems i'm not the only one suffering this issue which is at least some comfort, it's good knowing i'm not alone and that the problem isn't my machine.

The people who have downloaded it successfully, what browser are you using? I'm not sure if it makes a difference, I am just curious.

Note: There are still A LOT of people trying to download it at the same time. I have gotten over 100 emails just this afternoon with people trying to access it so I really think it has to do with our servers being overworked so please be patient and try again later, or check back here on this thread because this is where I will announce if we have a solution.

Tryed three times, even doing the cookie clear that was recommended, still showing as corrupted/damaged. File sizes vary (16.5, 14.7, and 14.6).

Thanks Cassie! After about a dozen tries, with mostly corrupted files and a couple of downloads of the annex plans, I finally got a working version of the file! I'm using Chrome in Windows 7.

Just downloaded the file for the 4th time now (tried 3 times last night) and i am still getting the corrupt file notice from adobe. Has anyone fixed the issue yet.

Finally Success !!! windows 7 with chrome. Many ,many corrupted files and then.... Magic.... its here ! Keep trying it will come thru eventually!

Took me 14 tries, but then it worked.
I had fingers crossed on BOTH hands the last time I downloaded.
